Last i knew, PCF was hosted in the PCF office!Prime wrote:um, i think the company that hosts the site went down
I'm sure they've changed it since, but when we had the meet at the PCF offices last year, we saw the machine that was hosting the forum. Looked like an old school P4.

Re: What happened?
I don't think so.....To host a web-server you need far more dedicated bandwidth that you can get at a normal sized office. Dedicated bandwidth in SA is insanely expensive. LAst we asked IS we got a quote for R100k for a 6mb line.....DAE_JA_VOO wrote:Last i knew, PCF was hosted in the PCF office!Prime wrote:um, i think the company that hosts the site went down

Hmm, but how many active users are there on PCF? Enough to really require such a line?Nuke wrote:I don't think so.....To host a web-server you need far more dedicated bandwidth that you can get at a normal sized office. Re: What happened?
Er, i somehow can't see the forums being run off a p4 from pcf's offices. That might have been their mail server? And if pcf is downloading files for the cover disk, then that line is going to be pretty busy. its possible that was the server, but from what i understand from a discussion with ron yesterday, the sight is hosted else where.

Yeah, Ron told me yesterday that he contacted "the hosting guys". So I dunno.

Re: What happened?
Apparently the server was being moved from one datacentre to another. PCF was notified, but for some reason the message never found its way to Dalfers or myself, so I never knew about it.

That's one theory. The other is that Kronos banned everyone for the weekend just for the fun of it.Ron2K wrote:Apparently the server was being moved from one datacentre to another. PCF was notified, but for some reason the message never found its way to Dalfers or myself, so I never knew about it.

Re: What happened?
Don't worry ... the bill is being sent straight to Ron. I had to resort to Won-Won's crowd on IRC last night for entertainment.DJT wrote:Won, if i were you i would make heads roll for the lapse in communication. How much do you think GBs or Stu's therapy is gonna cost for abandonment issues?
Tribble can't fathom that Kronos would be so evil, but I have tried to assure her that it's quite possible with him.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:The latter being far more likelyStuart wrote:That's one theory. Naah I don't believe Kronos would do that.
Re: What happened?
Nah, it just took me that long to figure out how to get connected. Never used IRC before last night. But it was after you left, yes.Tribble wrote:So you were there Probably waited for me to leave firstStuart wrote:Don't worry ... the bill is being sent straight to Ron. Hey all... sorry about that one. We host offsite and the company were moving their servers. Apparently an email was sent out but nothing came through my side. On the bright side at least we all got to see some sun this weekend
Re: What happened?
Er, no, we all just sat inside in front of our computers CTRL+F5ing it every ten seconds for two days straight.Dalfers wrote:Hey all... sorry about that one.
