When the next BSOD happens, write down the error code it gives (it's a bunch of funny looking hexadecimal numbers like 0x32A3B003E 0x2353FD etc) and google them. It should also give the name of the driver file that failed. That should point you in the right direction... Or at least write them here so we can try help you.

have you overclocked your pc or any other component in your machine? Vista also keeps a log of all the crashes on your system. Go to control panel ---> Problem reports and solutions ----> view problem history.
write down the newest ones you see and post them here so we can help further.

One way you could eliminate the whole software / driver issue thing is to check if it crashes under XP. If it doesn't then it's definitely some sort of software / driver problem under Vista. But if it does crash under XP, then it's almost definitely hardware related.
So maybe running XP for a few days (or until it crashes) will give you a chance to eliminate half the suspects, if you know what I mean.

first off...
Right click on my computer --> properties --> advanced system settings --> in the advanced tab you go to settings under startup and recovery --> untick automatically restart in system failure.
That way you will see what the code is on system crash.
We need to know what the error is otherwise the problem could be anything...

I only ever get this error on a failed overclock thats not very stable. Either an 8a or 8e error. Are you sure you're running your equipment at stock?

And all your drivers are updated...i would probably suggest you try using xp to see if it crops again like someone else mentioned here. It could be a failing component or a component not quite compatible. If you can just dual boot or get another drive. But preferably keep the same drive so the machine you're testing is consistent.

Why not use Vista's firewall? Yes I know Microsoft made it but it is a lot better than the one provided in XP.

That has some free ones for you to try...

And there...
Personally I would say use the Comodo one but I am using the Vista firewall at the moment with no hassles...

I am using vista's firewall as well. Its actually pretty decent. I haven't had any hassles or issues with it what so ever.
are you sure you didn't have both zone alarm and vista's firewall enabled at the same time? That could also have been the source of your problem. Two firewalls can and probably will conflict with each other if both are active.
