dev-journal wrote:If the "right" way for some people to play the game changes from killing monsters to camping the auction house, is the game better off for it? Ultimately we don't think it is, but we also don't want to take something away that has become such an enjoyable part of the game for others. So, the question instead becomes: how can we refocus the end game away from farming the auction house back to farming monsters? It's a complicated issue, but one we are committed to addressing.
The first solution always presented when we discuss this problem is "Why don’t you just get rid of the auction house?" and while completely removing the feature would in fact fix the problem it created, it would also create a void that the auction house was originally designed to address. For example, we don't want players to feel like the only way to trade with other people is by sitting in chat and spamming "WTS [item link]" and "WTB [awesome item]" all day. This is definitely not ideal.
maybe a glimmer or two of hope but may also be too little, too late...
amazing how the dev's stance has changed since jay got shown to the penalty box...

You mean there might be hope for this game? *fingers crossed*

Remember Diablo 2? Just one more level, just one more...
Diablo 3 is not focused on leveling. Gear was secondary in Diablo 2. I spent ages on Mephisto and never got my oculus. I think they just got caught up in what works for wow with its set items and auto leveling system to remember that diablo was how you made your character to be. I am all for opening all the skills but add some talent points and a respec system to get players involved a bit.
Congrats blizzard. First Diablo 3 offline gameplay footage available. You will need a ps3 to play it though. Don't count on D3 for PC getting a lagless mode anytime.
The Console Version Of Diablo III Could Very Well Be The Best One

There are two reasons the console port of Diablo III, announced by Blizzard last month and shown off at PAX East this weekend, could be the definitive version of the game.
The first reason is obvious: you can play offline. You don't have to worry about server errors or Time Warner Cable while playing this incarnation of Blizzard's action-RPG.
Reason #2 is harder to understand without getting your hands on the PlayStation 3 version of the third Diablo, but it becomes obvious almost as soon as you do: Diablo III feels much, much better on a controller than it does on a mouse and keyboard.
Put the pitchforks down, folks. I was skeptical too. I spent many, many hours in the demon-infested hells of Diablo II (and a few more with Diablo III), and for a while, I figured a console version would never work. When I think Diablo, I think "click, click, click."
But after just a few minutes with Diablo III on PS3—which trades the clicking for nudging, jiggling, and mashing—I almost wish this series had been built for controllers all along.
I know. Blasphemy. Really, though, it feels like a different game: I hopped on a demo at PAX East this morning, loaded up a Demon Hunter, and wandered through one of the dungeons, flinging arrows and firing energy bolts as I danced my way around a mob of enemies. And it felt good. Surprisingly good.

Follow the link for further reading. And I wish our boss battles were as action packed as the PS3's... <_<

It really is time to pick up the pitch forks. Blizzard has fallen so far from grace its no longer funny.
I have played diablo 1 on the psx so I knew that a game like diablo 3 was possible. Diablo 2 not so much though because of how the spells were handled but if with a few tweaks even that could have made it to ps2.
No online needed for the inferior system? Not a big surprise but a reason to stop Ubisoft ...er I mean blizzard.
I think Blizzard is suffering from loosing their core audience. Let's face it, casual is a nice pursuit. A quick buck for a f@#$. But ultimately your core and loyal followers will spread the word and get people interested.
It was said nicely somewhere. Diablo 3 isn't the game everyone wanted but it was the game we got. I did finish on inferno ...after the nerf.
I looked at Warcraft the gathering and figured I don't need a card game
So wondering if / how Blizzard will allow owners of the game on PC to gain access to the PS3 version without having to shell out more cash for the same game.
Played through the PC version once but stopped after that because I couldn't take the lag anymore. Think it would be an absolute blast to a) play offline, and b) sit on the couch with four mates and the 42" LCD working through the campaign.

I know, and what's worse is that I was "that guy" that shelled out for the CE of the PC version (which, erm, looks great as a doorstop nowadays).

That, said Wilson, made money a much higher motivator than the game's original motivation to simply kill Diablo, and "damaged item rewards" in the game.
the more you know...

I have to say that I agree, yes the Diablo 3 AH nearly ...or rather DID kill the game. However I do believe there is a place for an auction house in a game like WoW where the items are set and you can convert your currency value to gold.
GW2 has the good supply and demand system in place. And me not knowing how to make cash has swayed to buying the gem cards.
But hey, how many guessed and told that randomized items + auction house was a bad idea only to be proven right?
25 March 2014 will see the release of Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls for the PC following the closure of the game breaking auction house. The launch will feature a standard edition, a digital deluxe edition with the normal digital goodies you can find with the collectors edition and then also a retail box collectors edition for those that like their goods in a more touchable form.
The PS4 will also be getting the game in the form of the ultimate evil edition however no release has yet been announced. There is no info on if the last gen consoles are getting it as DLC or a standalone game.
After having played the PS3 version I have no doubt that Diablo 3 is a console game. Certain aspects of the PC version are preferred but you cannot get past that barrier of local play. Being able to play a game with no lag trumps every bit of extra that is given to something dependent on someone else. I might just go PS4 with this but waiting on Blizzard to announce if they are dropped the forced battle.net connection or not.
