Forum rearrangement

Post by Ron2K »

Hi all,

After some discussion involving the powers that be over at Intelligence Publishing, it's been decided to rearrange the structure of the forums somewhat.

This will be the forum structure in future. I'll be implementing these changes at 14:00 on Saturday, 28 June.

----------

The Website

- PCFormat Online
- Moderator nominations

Moderator nominations will be locked, as we no longer accept moderator nominations from the community; instead, we appoint them based on a need for them. However, it is felt that this section should, for now, be retained for historical purposes.

The Mags

- PCFormat
- T3
- Computeractive
- Reader Reviews

Net Plus will be deleted; all posts contained within this section will be permanently removed.

Operating Systems

- Windows
- Linux/Unix
- Mac OS
- Other OS

Mac OS will be a new section; any relevant posts in Other OS will be moved into here. The Mandriva Linux, Fedora Core and SUSE Linux sections will be deleted, all posts contained within these sections will be moved to Linux/Unix.

Computers

- Hardware
- Software
- Gaming
- General
- Security
- Networking
- Cooling & Overclocking
- Benchmarking
- Modding

This category will remain unchanged from its current state.

Development and Design

- Applications Development
- Web Development
- Databases
- Graphics Design

This category will be an amalgamation of the current Web Development and Programming categories. Applications Development will be the current programming section (just renamed), while Web Development will be the current HTML, Flash, WSIWIG, CGI and PHP/ASP sections merged into one. The Databases and Graphics Design sections will remain as they are.

General Chat

- Chillout...relax
- The Ward
- Skidmarks
- The Locker Room
- Anime & Manga

The For Sale and Services Offered/Wanted sections will be moved to the new Classifieds category, explained below.

Classifieds

- For Sale
- Services Offered/Wanted

Permissions on these two sections will be changed so that users not logged in will be unable to view them. In addition, Services Offered/Wanted will have forum pruning enabled: any topics not posted to in 30 days will be automatically deleted. (This is currently in effect in the For Sale section.)

Sections not mentioned above

The remaining sections - WISP, SharkNet and Member Action Required will be deleted. Topics in WISP will be moved to Networking; topics in SharkNet will be moved to Security.

Awesome :)

I have ONE suggestion. Could we perhaps have a Project Logs section in the modding category?

Nice. How about a section is added like proposed by Andy.

I see other members like schase and Hex_rated agreed.

That is being looked at however it will probably only happen when the upgrade happens to the forum not the re-arrangment .

Yep, i agree to this one too. I think that dealers should have to pay a small fee though, like on SS.

Um on a hardware side

Could we maybe mix modding and cooling in one section and overclocking and benchmarking in another?

Cooling doesn't really have anything to do with modding though. It's got far more to do with benching.

I'd disagree actually Djv, well WRT wc and such :\ But w/e

Dam I can't think of the word I want. Benchmarking and overclocking go hand in hand so I withdraw my last statement and say

Overclocking + Benching

and

Cooling

Not now. I'll definitely consider it if we move to phpBB 3, which has subforum support.

Any chance of having separate sections for For Sale and Wanted?

Well, even WC. WC has WAY more to do with overclocking, Modding is only about making something LOOK different. Sometimes people include high end cooling in this, but it's certainly not a requirement.

No real benchmarking can be done without at LEAST WC, we all know that ;)

However, maybe we need a section for cooling, a section for modding, and a section for benching and OCing.

OK guys, I've made the changes as outlined in the first post of this thread - a bit earlier than I was planning for, but something came up on my end and I realised that I wouldn't be online this afternoon.

Ah, so this is what you been up to... maybe your rearranging things triggered some odd thing inside me to bring up an old thread unsubconsiously (i have been noted to sence strange things and act on them).. or it could be something else...

I like the arrangement, clean and simple , and like the adia of adding a MAC OS section since apples are getting more popular here in SA again. By the way, i also looked at UK forum, it is not as aestheticly pleasing as the south african one.
