Computer won't boot

Post by CesarePlay »

Hi. I am trying to reformat my friends computer. I got a small problem though. The computer will not boot. The processor etc comes on but no display. I have checked all components to see if they are working and they are fine. I don't know what else to do. I tried the graphic card and it is working but the monitor will not show a screen.

Ok. I can't test it now though. :( I don't have a spare screen. The graphic card seems fine. There is power getting into it and the fan is coming on. The only computer I have that is agp is at my dads office.

P.S My own gaming computer did this last week for an hour then all of a sudden it worked and has stayed working since.

Could be. If it is then its a big upgrade need as it is an old amd 64 . I don't think you can get motherboards for this processor anymore.

Sounds like the mobo is on its way out.

I'd say your friend needs to back up everything and look at spending some money on a new rig. Otherwise, the PC won't work permanently in the future :P

I will get the full specs later today as I am not sure what motherboard it is but I had it about 5 years ago. I sold it to him a while back.

Three letters my good sir, RAM.

If you swap them around, take one out, slap it around a bit. It's all very fuzzy, hence why it suddenly started working again.

Hi. There was only one ram stick and that was not the problem. It seemed to be the connection where the agp card went in was dirty.
