Upgrade Time

Post by De1ty »

Hey people I am looking in upgrading my PC parts.....
and i am not sure which way to go

i am stuck between Intel, Gigabyte or XFX
i am leaning towards the XFX nVidio 790i Ultra but from what i read of the 680i
about crashing and all those not fun things i am wondering again what to do
and which way to go with motherboard choice...

Please any help would be great....

I found out That Gigabyte motherboards on a personal scale more durable. i(preferbly a Gigabyte board with Intel chipset). Other models i found flimsy, and pack in about 2 to 3 years of extreme use. I dont know much about XFX...

From my experience with XFX, they are pretty decent (i.t.o GFX cards)... but you can never really go wrong with a Gigabyte mobo...

Ever thought of going the EVGA 790i route?
Their boards are very well built and offer a full two year warranty. Actually KingPin used an EVGA 790i with an EVGA 9800GX2 to break the single card 3DMark 06 record a few months ago.

As for DDR3, well it is still a bit too pricey IMO (although the DDR3 2000MHz is starting to perform better than high end DDR2 memory).

What about a 780i board with 2GB of OCZ Reaper or Crucial Ballistix memory? It'll cost you a third of the price and the performance will be just as good.

I have been looking at the 790i motherboard but now I am confused between the :
EVGA SOCKET 775 790I QUADCORE 3XPCI-E MOTHERBOARD FC132-CK-NF79-A1 (http://www.zaps.co.za/?pid=8917)
and the
XFX N790-IUL NFORCE 790I ULTRA 3-WAY SLI ESA READY SOCKET LGA775 QUAD-CORE CPU NVIDIA NFORCE 780I SLI FANLESS HEAT PIPE DESIGN 4X DDR3 2000 SATA2 ATX MOTHERBOARD FMB-X790IUL
(http://www.zaps.co.za/?pid=6778)
the price difference is R100
so I am confused why cause from what i can see they are the same....

Because EVGA have had some great reviews lately and XFX hasn't.

Evga is REALLY good.

XFX is known to have REALLY bad issues, i.e popping ram.

EVGA is the number 1 seller of nVidia based motherboards and graphics cards in the States and outsells Asus in Europe.

They were voted the best graphics card manufacturer for 2007 by the users of X-bit Labs.
