Potential Case mod
Potential Case mod
Hey guys,
I've been toying with the idea of building a new case, as opposed to modding the other one I have - figured if I'm going to spend time/money on a mod, it may as well be something I know I want..
Anyway, below is a very rough, basic design of the type of case I'm looking at...materials and other things are still in the air, and there are a number of changes I would make to the current design, just haven't had time.
Basically, opty's, HDD and PSU would all be in the lower compartment so they're out of the way.
The top level would have only the Mobo and expansion cards.
I'll have probably CCFL in the lower compartment, with either slits or clear plexi in the dividing section, so light can come up from the bottom. If not that, possibly LEDs in the top.
All wiring will be hidden out of sight where possible.
I think I'll leave space for water..
Potential changes:
*Opticals would use the stealth mod of dae's, so they would be fairly discreet.
*Fan position could change, depending on which cooler I decide to go with.
Lighting in the bottom, and possible a clear plexi side panel in the bottom layer.

I like it. It's just unnecessarily big, but you've said you're still busy. I would make it much smaller. I'd also only include one optical drive, you don't need two.
Along with that, i wouldn't have such big/so many windows. Generally cases that have TOO much internal view look terrible.
Just my 2c

That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.
Appreciate the input guys
Well I was looking at it..the Striker measure 40.5cm wide (thats the mobo in the model) yet my case was 44.5cm wide, so I'll chop it to about 35cm wide which seems to make it more cube-like (not really the look I want), so I'll work on it tonight.
Otherwise, suggestions on colour? I was thinking a nice steel effect could look good..maybe brushed alu with edging of some description, corrugated iron or something.

Re: Potential Case mod
I moved, funding was an issue, etc..
Still want to do it though, now that I have the hardware to show off

Re: Potential Case mod
So I was lying in bed last night at about 1:30, thinking about modding as you do, and I had some cool ideas for this mod...
I'll update the sketchup another time, or maybe make a new one, but here are some thought I had.
The case would be black - still not sure what material, but not plexi. Probably black alu or steel, methinks. Then there would be plexi forming the windows, but I want to have clear, invisible UV reactive vinyl/paint which I can use to draw unseen images onto the windows. I would then install some UV LEDs (hidden away so they're unseen) which could be turned on or off at will.
This way, You have a standard window with a view inside, and at the flick of a switch, you have the UV images shining. I also have UV reactive cable sleeving, RAM covers and fans, so the mod could take on a completely different look with the flick of a switch.
Another option is to have the windows be black perspex or, so the case would not be seen into under normal circumstances, but with the UV LEDs on, you would then get the UV images and the UV reactive stuff in the case lighting up.
I would also spray the Optical tray with UV reactive paint and do the DJV LED Optical Drive Mod, so that the tray would also be reactive, at will.
This would, of course, require some additional switches. I had some ideas for this.
Either use toggle switches
Or make touch sensitive switches built into the side of the case. That way, unless you knew they were there, you will only see a side panel...could be quite nice and discreet.
