When you say GUI console, do you mean the GUI client that displays the current protein? Or.... are you referring to a different thing?

Well... I am glad some ppl have actually started folding here in PCF... the last time I brought up the idea here the response was pathetic to say the least... congrats PCF and good luck with your foldig exploits... as for me I will stick with team 37726... currently hunting down the 20th spot overall... team overclock.net FTW :)

PS... you guys must seriously think of using SMP... much faster...

Good to see more people participating. I'm currently sitting at home with no internet (Thanks Telkom) and I have 4 pc's sitting with WU to upload.

Nice to see progress though

Nice to see more people participating. We're up to 10 people on the charts, there may be more people but they haven't completed WU's yet.

We're also climbing the team ranks quite fast

Ok I just downloaded the GUI client as it's the only one I could get working properly on my connection, otherwise how do you remove the console one from services? :?

I'm not interested in being first... Because I know that it'll take forever and a day to get first. Thats going up against people who have more that 15 Quad core machines dedicated to folding. A guy on Overclock.net has 11 Q6600's dedicated to folding.

Nice to hear about the Ubuntu installation. (Side note, it has to be 8.04 as 8.10 is only being released in October. 04 = April, 10 = October. 6 month release cycle).

I recently changed from having 2 x single core clients to running 64bit Ubuntu + SMP. With 2 x single clients I was getting about 400PPD, with SMP I'm averaging 1100PPD

To remove it from services try:

right click my computer, select manage, Expand "services and applications", select services. Find FAH client and right click, select properties, then change "Startup type" to disabled

*Note* I've never had to remove a FAH Client from services so the above may not be true, use at own risk

Nice one Monty!

Here's a quick question...why does the statistics page indicate that only one cpu was used, when I am using a quad core CPU? (or does "cpu" actually mean "prosessor" :?: )

F@H is only making use of 1 of your cores! ;)
So run multiple clients.
What I did was create 4 folders on my main OS HDD's main directy...copy the line based client into each of them, run them, alway for advanced options and then from there configure it how I want and then at the end with the computer ID...go from 1-4 (or more/less depending on how many instances of F@H you are running ;) )

Ok, to all you clever people who run linux...I kinda need some help

Now iv installed Ubuntu 8.04 64bit on VMware WorkStation and its running fine.etc
BUT, the problem is I cant seem to get the Linux based SMP client installed?
Soooo, if someone will be kind enough as to enlighten me on how to install it...please do! :P

Do you perhaps have to install it via the terminal and some commands?
I have no clue at all as the files dont seem like setup exe files (well, similar to the role they play in windows) as they dont really do much when you double click on either of them and there arent any notes on how to isntall it :(

Nice! :P
I noticed you used the EXACT format as I did for the folding details in your sig! :P hehe..cool! 8)

PsyClown: for ubuntu you need to install the package ia32-libs. Then there is no installation necessary, you extract the file you downloaded, right click the main FaH file and go to the permissions tab, then make sure "Run as application" is selected, then double click the file, choose run in terminal the voila, SHOULD work (not saying it will).

For people with dual and quad cores... run the SMP clients (available for both Windows and Linux), 1 SMP client for 2 cores, so 2 SMP clients for quad cores

I've already disabled it in services, I was wondering how I could uninstall it completely? :?

YES! I now have 2 WU's completed :D the first one I had - the one that took so long - was 2000 frames...second one only 150 frames, so it went quickly.

YAY! haha

I cant get the SMP client running!

Maybe you can help me through remote assistant?
Ill be/am running Ubuntu through VMWare...but kinda know nothing about Linux and am really starting to hate it.

Im jsut running 3 line based clients in Vista 64bit on my Q9300.
I also restart my PC every now and then which resets my current WU's I was busy with :(

Also when I use Premiere I have to stop one of the F@H services otherwise it lags  So there I also loose some points :?

Ok. I have just met the most frustrating piece of software, exluding Vista.
i am trying to run the console version, and it continously states that there is a core download error. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that that is out of the way...can one run the GUI version(5.03) together with the console version(5.04)?

Psy, I tried your sugestion by creating different folders, but this does not work...it says that a version is already running and that it will now close the pogram.
Friggin hectic, mate. I'm just going to "kyk noord en *** voort" as the saying goes. Perhaps, in one of my more sober moments, I will build VPO with XP instead of Vista. Dammit! :stupid:
