Unable to Log on in Windows Vista

Post by ElDiablo »

Hi guys

Im having a problem on a laptop pre-loaded with vista

When I try to log in to my user it displays a message:" The specified service is not available"

Even if I type an incorrect password it still displays that message... But it works in safe mode :?

Is there a way to get around this, or should I just re-install (again)

If you can log in safe mode, log in, change password, and try again.
Just a thought. I'm not sure if it'll work

Or, log in in safe mode, end check the system error logs. to see which service is failing to run at log on, disable it and viola.

Do you think a virus could have disabled the service? I did. Funny how the service starts in safe mode.
Why would Vista disable a basic service unless it was infected? Then again it is Vista...

Use 'Hijack this' to see what is starting up and maybe give us a list.
Soon Google will know everything...including how to divide by zero :(

that is also a definate possibility. i think do what Frozenfireside suggested and we can see what services are running and take it from there.
