The new Cover Disk - March 2007 (edit - April 2008 )
Hey guys, here’s the lowdown on the cover disc situation!
As a side-effect of rampant inflation, petrol hikes and economic blah, the price of paper and printing has increased dramatically (24% over the last six months and counting). In an attempt to keep the mag at its current price we are chopping the plastic box. We will be printing an A4 insert for the back of the mag with all the contents so the collectors can make a plan. There is also talk of offering boxes to subscribers as an incentive, since their numbers are managed and costs are kept way down due to absence of returns! If you have any suggestions or comments please let us know; if you think it’s an evil plot, it is. But by global economies and Eskom, not us.

I do not care how the disc is packaged. In the past, way back when PCF used cardboard covers, I had no problems with damaged coverdiscs. Thus arguments about discs in cardboard covers getting damaged is null and void.
The insert with disc contents is a good idea.
BTW. What Nab is saying about paper prices is true, the publisher I work for feels the burn in his bank balance when the printing bill comes in.

I've recieved two CD wallets as incentives for subscribing over the years, my idea, is that you do that at the beginning of the year, or subscription, but instead of putting 10 sleeves, you put 12, so one for each month and issue of the mag for the year/subscription.
My 2c worth, what you think?

I read the mag from cover to cover over the weekend
I am also miffed with the cardboard sleave, really sucks, especially since the disc is double sided, now I get fingerprints on one of the sides when trying to take it out. I tried pressing the two edges of the cover making it open up in sort of like an oval shape, but the sleave is so small that the disc stays stuck. So I was forced to grab hold of it & pull it out. Not nice. I understand that PCF trying to cut costs to help us by keeping the price of the mag down, but surely there's a better solution. I rather like the way NAG does it, they use a see-thru plastic film like sleave which works a lot better IMHO.
