WC Question: Is there a choice?

Post by Stuart »

I have a friend who wants to go the water cooling route. Not because he really needs it, just because he wants to. He says he's prepared to deal with whatever maintenance issues he needs to. I tried to talk him into high-end air cooling first, but he is dead set on water.

Now, he likes the look of my Ooze machine. (For those who don't know, it's all green.) He wants to go green as well, and as such has virtually decided to go for the CoolerMaster Aquagate Max cooling system. He almost went ahead and purchased it already, but I slowed him down and told him I wanted to check some stuff first. I spoke to Syndicate, and he says he can offer me a Koolance Exos Black or a Koolance Exos AI kit, both for less than what the Aquagate would cost.

I don't know much about water cooling (other than my brief journey into the world of the Gigabyte Galaxy II, which ended rather unpleasantly), but I've read enough threads here to know that you want to be sure you have a decent kit if you're going to try water. So, to my question ...

Should I just quietly sit back, let him buy the CM kit, and see how it goes, or should I really push him to get one of the Koolance kits instead? He seems quite willing to spend the extra money on the Aquagate, unless I can give him overwhelming reason not to. I almost think that he's made up his mind already, but I just wanted to get some opinions and offer him some experienced, intelligent counsel before he spends his hard earned cash. So, what think you?

(Sorry for the essay, and thanks for the advice.)

Local? Cos both the Koolance and the CM can be obtained locally, so he'd rather get those than importing.

Alright, I see a couple of Swiftech kits on Cyberorange. Nothing on Prophecy. I'll mention it to him. Thanks.

I'm just concerned that he'll choose looks over performance.

Schase - where can you find the Koolance Exos locally? Sorry for the O/T...

i would also rather spend a bit more cash, if i had it, on a decent kit... especially if it's for the cpu...

The swiftech kits have green coolant, and they own anything else locally available. Unfortunately CO have no stock AFAIK.

If you can't get a swifty, get one of Carl's Koolance kits.

So, essentially, the CM is the last of the three options he should consider? That was my gut feeling, but not having much experience with WC I couldn't say that with any authority.

Swiftech are by far the best kits you can get locally.

I've got one (still under construction), but it definately has the looks..especially if you go beyond what is stock and start playing around other configurations etc.
