Forum Ignore
I don't know if this option is available, but what this forum needs or every forum is a way to simply ignore members. I often try skimming over some idiot's posts but would prefer to have them completely invisible so that my day can remain all happy and nice!

hmm... the risks are that some will miss a relevant post, thereby resulting in the sort of confusion we have seen before being exacerbated by missing input...
perhaps 'suppressed', with an option to reveal, as opposed to simply ignoring?

one of the less-clever ideas so far
As said above, relevant info will be skipped making the person with the ignore list look stupid posting the same thing
every 2nd post will be an excuse that a certain member is on ignore so how could he know that post was made.
It goes against a human right of freedom of speech and considered prejudice!

I must admit that lately i have been having problems when freedom of speech and idiocy go hand in hand - i'm talking about the real little smilies and inane post that is of no relevance that some people make. THAT is why there is a rubbish thread....
Perhaps its time for the mods to start deleting posts like that again....

"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

Marshall, everyone has those days, all I can suggest is take it up witht hose members personally in a PM or e-mail to explain your frustration. There are unfortunately too many people here seeking only attention by not being themselves becuase of the "anonymous" factor. It's just something we need to live with unfortunately.
But please don't be shy, if someone or something specific gets to say something about it. You'll be surprised about how many people will back you up and agree. At least jusdging from the comments in this thread.
The 2nd option is, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" (jk)

Ignore lists are nice in theory, but they must be used with discretion. As someone already posted out, there is the chance that important content posted by ignored users may be missed, which is something that the person doing the ignoring must consider. If there's a conversation going on (such as a decent discussion about, say, the latest and greatest processor to be released), you risk missing out on critical parts of that conversation. I would recommend that ignore lists should only be used as an absolute last resort.
The ignore list is a standard feature in the next major phpBB version, so there's a fair chance that they'll show up here eventually. (I say "fair" chance because it depends on whether phpBB3 can be ported to run on the PHP-Nuke content management system that this site uses - but that's another topic.) All it does is hide posts made by users that have been ignored - ignored users can still send you private messages. Oh, and before you get any ideas, it doesn't allow you to ignore mods or admins.
I have a screenshot of this in action, which I will dig up if bribed.

This absurdity is akin to accusing somebody wearing headphones of practising suppression of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is one thing; choosing to hear it is another. I already selectively read only a fraction of the threads created; even better would be to selectively read only some people's posts.Synthesis wrote:one of the less-clever ideas so far

So ÜberAdmin - are we going to try this on the new site?

Look for the "friends & foes" feature in the User Control Panel. It's already here.
