WC-friendly P35 based MB?

Post by Kenjutsu »

I am looking for advice on a WC friendly Intel P35 based MB.

My WC components are:
  • WaterChill CPU Cooler Antarctica DYO - CPU01/A 10mm
WaterChill Antarctica CPU lid, Socket T (only) 10mm
    WaterChill Chipset Cooler DYO - NB01/P2 10mm
I am hoping to get a MB for not much more than R1500.

I was looking at the following MBs:

Intel Dragontail Peak DP35DP Motherboard
MSI P35 Neo IP35 Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L IP35
Asus P5K IP35 Motherboard
MSI P35 Neo2-FR IP35 Motherboard

On-board sound and graphics are not important.

TIA

Also, if you're going watercooling, that means you want to overclock right? Well if so then you can't even consider the Intel DP. You can't oc any Intel board, you can play with RAM timings but thats about all

Not always, but most of the time :P Its safe to guess that he wants to OC.

Also like Vampyre said, dont go for an Intel board for OCing.
Why not consider the DFI DK P35 board? Its R1.7K or so, but will be awsome for OCing and doesnt have any heatpipes :D

I meant that you can't have a completely Intel board if you want to OC. Theres a difference between board and chipset.... AFAIK ?? :dontknow:

OC'ing is not high on my list. I invested quite a lot in my current WC setup (to keep my Prescott room warmer cool), and I would like to re-use it on my new MB/CPU.

It seems as if the MSI P35 Neo IP35 and GA boards do not have heatpipes, so that should not be a problem. Between these to, which would be better?

TIA

From the reviews I have read, it seems as if the GA-P35-DS3L gets better reviews. Any comments on this board?

The heatpipe arguement is crap.

I run full watercooling and I've used two boards with heatpipes, namely the Asus P5K-E and the Asus P5E.

I had zero problems with the P5K-E and on the P5E which has much more substantial heatpipes, I only had minor clearance issues which I sorted out in less than 5 minutes.

The only thing you need to consider with heatpipes is that you need decent airflow over the passive cooling otherwise your non watercooled mobo components will get a bit toasty, but normal case fans will do the job fine.

What? If you want to watercool the NB you have to remove the heatpipe, thus exposing the Mosfet and SB too

Yeah sure if you want to wc the chipset you gotta remove the sinks...but otherwise...people keep saying you can't go wc if you're running heatpipes cos there is no airflow

Oh I see what you mean.

But he did state in his first post that he had a chipset waterblock ;)
