PC Format March Edition
This month's edition is very interesting, with all the guides and reviews about the 8800GT. But I noticed a Huge mistake. On page 40, where they list the specs of the 4 8800GT's, they gave the wrong specs for the XFX Alpha Dog edition. The core clock isn't near 670mhz as they said, it's 640mhz, and the shader clock is also horribly wrong. Not 1700mhz, but 1600mhz. Don't forget the memory clock, not 975mhz, but 950mhz. And you don't get Company of Heroes Opposing fronts, you just get the plain Company of Heroes. This is what is on the Alpha Dog's box:
And here is GPU-Z to prove the stock settings.
And the MSI 8800GT overclocks to about 740mhz - stable. I don't have a screenie about those clocks, but I saw my friends' card do that. What happened guys??? Why write the wrong specs? 8O

Now that I didn't know. But it sound funny, because they probably have the stock one (600mhz), then they have the alpha dog, then there are 3 alpha dogs, and then all the other models as well. Oh well... Sorry to the reviewers.gifs wrote:There are three different Alpha Dog editions:
Standard - 600mhz
Extreme - 640Mhz
XXX - 670Mhz (I think)
gifs is correct.
There are in fact various different Alpha Dog Editions with different part No.`s for example:
(a) PV-T88P-YDF4
(b) PV-T88P-YDD4
No. (b) above is the XXX Edition, and also the one referred to in the review.
Core Clock = 670 mhz
Memory Clock = 1.95 ghz (975 mhz DDR)
Shader Clock = 1675 mhz
I know this because I recently purchased the PV-T88P-YDD4 (XXX Edition).

Slightly OT here, but did anyone read my guide this month (Page 58-59)?
Oh man i LOL'ed so hard when i saw the title. I decided to do this month's guide on bending plexi, and the title of the guide was "Bend it like Ettienne". I found the cornyness absolutely hilarious
Thanks Cammie

lol, thanks dude, but I was wrong in the end. I didn't even know that there where 3 kinds of alpha dog editions. Anyway, I'd like to write reviews of hardware, but it won't be possible for me.Synthesis wrote:Thank you for the correction ModDoctor. I usually use sources such as PCF for a buying guide, assuming always they are correct and don't need to be double-checked. I hope you applied for the hardware review writng job as I'll feel safe knowing I'm reading the correct info
Thanks Ettienne, that was a really cool guide once again. Next time I bend perspex I'll do it right. (Not melt the whole friggin thing...lol). And I think the title was very well said.

And you don't really need a guide anyway, because installing XP on the EEE is exactly the same as installing it on any other PC. The only difference is that you use an external DVD drive.g0ldback wrote:Its also in teh manual that comes with ya Eeesimmy wrote:There is a heading on the cover about "Haxor teh your Eee PC to load XP", anyone know which page its on? 8O
Of course, you can do it with a flash drive, external HDD, etc etc etc, but those are complicated.
