E4500 and rammiez overclocking.......?

Post by pienkie »

Ahoy peeps....

Bought me a "new" setup some time ago:

- E4500
- Asus P5K
- Mushkin 4-5-5-12

Now, I'm itching to OC this baby, but I'm struggling a bit since this is my first Intel machine and I don't quite know what is "normal."

Here are my q's:

-->> What is the highest volt safe for 24/7 use?

-->> The volts given by my bios is much lower than that shown by monitoring software?

-->> What is the highest safe temps under load?

-->> What can I expect to get out of my ram?? And what volts are safe for my ram? Here is a link: http://www.prophecy.co.za/mushkin-99656 ... 23489.html

-->> What can I expect to get out of my CPU for 24/7 use? I've gotten it stable at 2.8ghz, but then voltage needs to be changed. It feels a bit early from what I've read? Does this mean I have a "bad" cpu?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
S

(Darn it sounds all formal :P )

vDroop is the difference between the idle voltage, and the voltage when the CPU is under load. Not what you set it to and what it actually is ;)

Oh yeah, and never ever trust Software for voltage readings ;) If you wanna know what they are, get a multimeter, google your motherboard's voltage measuring points and hey! Presto

1. 1.425v for that chip.

2. That doesn't sound right. Whip out the dmm and be certain ;)

3. 55c on cores max.

4. 2.1v - 500mhz @ cas5

5. 3.2 - 3.6ghz. No it doesn't, just different :P Some scale better than others with v, some are good @ low v and bad in comparison @ high v.

Lol a Zalman 7700cu in a tsunami case... Afraid I can't afford other cooling atm. I'm now 100% stable @ 3.0ghz @ 3.25V, but temps go up to about 57-58 degrees after 30min with OCCT. I think it's alright, cuz under normal usage it doesn't seem to go above 55, but ya, I'm sorta stuck here it seems? For now tho... I'll get better cooling some time. Also, I hav some really dodgy heatpaste on here atm, need to get proper AS or something ASAP.

I'll try pushing the ram a bit now...

Ah sweet... I was expecting you to tell me I'm an idiot for not doing dual Orthos overnight after every mhz or something  .

I'll try the suppi now.

Ram = 450mhz @ 5-5-5-18... test 1, commencing :P

Just did 8m suppi... Now the temps don't even touch 50. 47 max, but only briefly. Lies at around 45. Ram seems to be stable.

Are the temps I get frm doing this to be trusted?

5-5-5-10 should work too btw
That's fine, winter you can take it far higher. For benches, stay under 60 - 65 tho ;) I.e not 24/7 :P

"THANK YOU, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS! :P

But AFAIK there's no way to measure ram temps? What i meant was, could the speeds do them any harm? Soz for noob q...
