Ok, I'm creating a new thread for this but thanks for any help so far.
This is the screen when I insert 7.10 and boot using the install/live option.
It just hangs there forever, CDROM and HD halt, not freeze, as if it's just finished it's job.
This screen shows that I'm basically in Ubuntu, things like the volume control work (multimedia k/board) so it hasn't frozen.
Then when I press CTRL-ALT-DEL (I don't even know what that's supposed to do in Linux) then this happens and keeps scrolling forever.
Ok, so that 7.10, granted it is a download and for that size it has occured to me that maybe it's the image, but I can't get into Ubuntu either on the Feb PCF coverdisc. This is what I get:
Maybe it's related as to why 7.10 wont load. So that's about the best info I can give now. Hope it's enough.

That image of the text errors tells me two things. Either your installation got messed up somehow (in which case, reinstall), or your hard drive is failing.Synthesis wrote:Then when I press CTRL-ALT-DEL (I don't even know what that's supposed to do in Linux) then this happens and keeps scrolling forever.

Pray it's not the hard drive.

I have found to have a lot of problems with Linux "Live" CD's and with certain Optical drives. had a similar problem as you (I just remembered now) a while back. Brand new drive wound not read the CD properly yet an older one worked
