Help installaing Ubuntu please?

Post by Synthesis »

Ok, I'm creating a new thread for this but thanks for any help so far.

This is the screen when I insert 7.10 and boot using the install/live option.
It just hangs there forever, CDROM and HD halt, not freeze, as if it's just finished it's job.

This screen shows that I'm basically in Ubuntu, things like the volume control work (multimedia k/board) so it hasn't frozen.

Then when I press CTRL-ALT-DEL (I don't even know what that's supposed to do in Linux) then this happens and keeps scrolling forever.

Ok, so that 7.10, granted it is a download and for that size it has occured to me that maybe it's the image, but I can't get into Ubuntu either on the Feb PCF coverdisc. This is what I get:

Maybe it's related as to why 7.10 wont load. So that's about the best info I can give now. Hope it's enough.

That image of the text errors tells me two things. Either your installation got messed up somehow (in which case, reinstall), or your hard drive is failing.

Pray it's not the hard drive.

It's not the HD. Tried on my previous 2 hard drives and now a brand new Hard drive out the box which I've stress tested and it is definately ok.

Hmm. In that case, I will defer to the Ubuntu experts on the forum. :D

Oh well. Let me re-download the image anyway and see if ther'es an difference. It keeps seeming like it's the image. The only common factor between all the computers I've tried it on is the CD.

Prob 1: Its the distro image/Live cd.
Prob 2: Its the gfx card. Mine installed only when I removed my card.
