Fan Controller

Post by PureFire »

Hello...
right, im seriouslu in need of a fan controller...
i was looking in the 3.5" devices, but the omly one i really like was the vantec nexus 205, and its been discontinued ;(

so... now im looking at the 5.25" devices, and the only one i like there really is the zalman zm-mfc2...

now, i have only seen sybaritic and prophecy selling this, at close to r500...
yet performance pcs sell it for approx. $55 (about r385).
if i import this, will it work out more expensive?

i havent imported before, so im not sure about the whole customs etc rigmarole.
thanks!

It could be cheaper, especially if you can find the guy on this here forum who does special orders...I can for the life of me not remember who he is though :( , but every now and then a post comes up stating that orders must be placed before the end of the month.

Lithe - that would be Wik1d who places an order with Performance Pc's in the states each month...

drop him a PM to find out when the next order will be...

I doubt it will be cheaper:

1) General rule of thumb, take the $ amount, times 11 to get a rough guestimate on how much it will cost

2) $55 * 7.2 = R396. Add customs of 15%, R396 *1.15 = R455.4

3) Shipping still has to be added on top of this, and even if it is a HUGE order with you only paying 5 dollars (Which is HIGHLY unlikely) you are still at the R500 mark again.

Buy it locally, if it breaks you have to pay shipping back to PerformancePC's...

k, well, the one shop near me has made me an offer, not much more than if i were to get it online (pcf, sybaritic, prophecy)

will be paying R499, and wont even have delivery costs.
also, the petrol cost is negligable, as theyre only 5km away! yay!

so i look forward to getting this on monday when they get stock!

one question about the mfc2...
do i HAVE to use the cvs for it to work or can i choose to not install that specific item?
maybe lithe joint can tell me, or anyone else for that matter?

thanks!

k... so i got my fan controller today! :D:D:D
its actually flippen nice...
just gotta decide what im gonna do with the silver

anyways...
@LITHE JOINT
are you using yours with the CVS (current / voltage sensor) or not?
do you know if it HAS to be connected to work?

i will more than likely have to cut in my case or one of my panels to install this thing if i need to have it connected, coz i dont have space at the moment.

though, i just got a brainwave...
i know where i'll install the cvs...
in the back of my case, there are air vents

that i will just cut into and mount the "usb" thing there!
im thinking i should re-route my ccfls inverter switch to that panel as well?!
