TV card
TV -cards comes in two flavours:

(1)GPU with TV-out and (2)TV-Capture card

(1) is used to display things on a tv/decoder/etc. you can even plug it into a projector if you have the right equipment.

(2) is used to "Capture" things from the tv/vcr/dish/etc. you make your own compiled movies, clips and funky things with this little baby, and you can even use it with your current GPU...

so in more words than one, what do you want to do with it???

I´m sure that you can watch TV on your computer with a TV-tuner card. If this is correct then I am sure all you have to do is plug in the antenna (like how you would do for a normal TV) and get watching!!!

sounds like fun, anybody here got a radio tuner, I do and they are really handy if I get bored of my mp3´s

I could be very wrong with this, but i think tv out lets u watch your tv on your pc not watch stuff from your pc on the tv. U will need a tv in function for that. u would need a card with VIVO(video-in/video-out)

Of course as i said i could be completely wrong or swapping it around or something but check it out anyway incase im not.

Well, like graphics cards, TV cards have a few output options.

But first off, lets get some things straight.
The TV-out option allows one to view what is shown on a pc monitor on a TV. These days, the S-video connnection rules the roost, but I am sure one can find co-axial jacks on older cards.

The TV-in allows you to view on your pc monitor feed from TV (that offer video out options via RCA or S-video connectors on the TV itself)
or from video cameras that offer a video-out function. In the latter case, FireWire ports are the standard these days, and hence one would need a FireWire port on your pc. Some older models probably still offer RCA video-out jacks.

Hope this helps clarify the confusion..

Yo zeeky, u can watch tv on your pc. I´ve got a "tv-card" in @ the moment and watching SABC1-3(Dam hope no one who workes there is reading!) To watch M-net u need to download software that duplicates the signal that the M-net decoder sends out.

Just need to snoop around and get an antenna yes . Njoy

*confused* I just split the signal from the decoder´s aerial out and sent one to my TV, one to my TV card in my PC and tuned it to find the decoder. I dont get the Software part?

Genius TV cards are good. There´s also some USB typed from Lifeview. Very handy if you want to take it with you somewhere and connect it to your laptop. Just check compatibility too.

Also, I found for some unknown reason that some shops sell TV cards using only NTSC or SECAM decoders. These are tv-broadcasting standards that dont work here. For South Africa you need a PAL-I (G/K) Decoder.

Also look-out for some of those cards offering "VCR" capability - you can actually program it to record a film on your harddisk using MPEG-2 compression. Takes up space but very handy.
