Firewalls n´ AntiVirus

Just another question...
 How do I set my McAfee v.7 Firewall so that it doesn´t slow down my Internet connection? I used to have Norton Personal Firewall 2003, it also slowed the connection down, but after a while it was fine. Will the same happen with the McAfee Firewall or what?
 What is actually better, Norton or McAfee? McAfee takes about 3h less to download updates...
 So which is the better Firewall?

 Norton or
 McAfee????

´cause I don´t want some ******* to get my password for the Internet. I happend once as I still lived in Germany, and that little BlTCH surfedunder myname for 350 Euros...

you need firewalls primarily to protect your system against trojans. the best firewall i.e. for me, is ZoneAlarm - whether its the freeware or the paid for version.

hehehe i shouldnt be opening myself up like this but i have never found the constrictions imposed by a firewall justifiable by the increased security of your pc. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_eek.gif">

 The thing in my sig is a quote from The Dilbert Future. its the last book i finished. i thought it was funny because most of the people i know who use linux are like penguins (?) and ALL of the people i know who use unix are portly men who wear suspenders (all 5 of them).
 
 In a world where we can choose from Mac (ya right), Unix and Linux (which are for people who think they are better than everyone else <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif"> ) what choice do i have besides windows?
 
 i never said i liked the fact that windows (and computers) are the products of capitalism . . . i just want it to stay the biggest and the best. that way there is no real competition, which is sorta the way it would work out in a communist state. see? the reasoning is kinda blurred but its there alright <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif">

 mmm . . . . <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_frown.gif"> if you say so. i have looked at the pros and cons of using firewalls. i decided that the risk of someone getting into my comuter is rather negliable. So all a program like Norton/McAfee does is slow me down. I have tried ZoneAlarm too, but it was all a bit pointless
 
 Maybe i like the "thrill" of being firewall-less. Ill probably start using one right after some dumbass cracks my comper. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif">

 Yeah! When I´ve got the time - been trying to follow the lobster story - it has its moments!
 
 We´ve got more in common than I thought - I´m running without "protection" since I left my previous ISP - don´t want to use Norton ´cos it causes too many crashes with all my music & video software - Any ideas on what to use? <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif">

nope no ideas . . . . i bought Norton Internet Security or Norton antivirus 2001/2/3 a couple of months ago.
 
 i installed it and it must have added 15 seconds to my start up time. and it was eating my RAM too. so i uninstalled it and put it in the back of my cupboard <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_lol.gif"> <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_lol.gif">
 
 performance is everything! security is not nothing but it cetainly isnt as much everything as performance!!!
