Maizey Plastics- Gladly offering assistance.
Hello everyone,
After following a couple of forum topics, Maizey Plastics has decided to take the plunge and join in on the action.
We were amazed, to see the interest in Perspex and Plexiglas in the modding forum.
Firstly a couple of facts to set the record straight:
Maizey Plastics currently have 19 branches across the whole of SA and offer an extensive range of materials.
We sell two brands of acrylic sheet – Perspex (manufactured by Lucite International) and Plexiglas (manufactured by Degussa).
Maizey offer a full cutting service for sheet materials purchased at all our branches, so yes, you may have to wait a while for your piece of material to be cut.
The rule of “First come first serve” applies and if we have a huge cutting job on the saws already, other cutting jobs will have to wait in line. Also bare in mind that almost 80% of what we sell in terms of sheet materials require cutting. (Most of the cutting requests from customers are done free of charge.)
As per the photograph (DAE JA VOO) that was posted on the site reflecting poor cutting of the Perspex purchased… Maizey, as a whole does not supply material that is poorly cut, and we would have rectified the matter if it was an error on our part. We would like to point out that we urge customers to communicate with our branch managers and discuss any service issues experienced.
As for instructions for working with acrylic, Maizey actually have extensive training material that we make available FREELY to our customers. Our marketing department has a promotional CD that can be requested that details our entire product range, as well as PDF files with detailed workshop handbooks for working with both Plexiglas and Perspex. (incidentally the orange material used for the fan cover is PERSPEX not PLEXIGLAS).
Please contact our Marketing Department for a FREE copy of the promotional CD. This should enlighten the modding forum on all the exciting products available… The possibilities are endless.
Example: Wik1d was looking for brushed alu.
We sell a plastic sheeting that looks like brushed alu (1,5mm / 1,3mm / 0,5mm / 0,1mm thick).
I hope we can assist in the future of the modding comunity.
Regards

Hiya "Maizey"
Wow, no other names?
Good to see you willing to partake on the forums...
Quick question - I understand you have two types of plexi - one that can be drilled into and one that can not. This was according to your sales people at the Florida side branch...
I need two pieces for side panels I am doing, just want to ensure which ones are which...

Dear Slasher,
What the salesman probably meant was that one is a "cast" product and the other is an "extruded" product.
The difference is that the cast product is more forgiving, where the extruded has a lot of "stress" in it due to the manufacturing process.
To answer your question: use the cast product (Perspex / Plexiglas GS) rather, but be carefull when drilling the material, use a sharp drillbit and dont use a lot of force on the drill itself.
Please visit our website for a comprehensive workshop guide.
Hope this will help.

I understand that I am supposed to use as slow a speed as possible? Some members on the forum also mentioned rather using a blunt bit?
Thank you for the assistance, greatly appreciated...

Not showing off, just trying to see who it is that's making the posts. You know me, i like to know forum members by more than their nicks
By the way, Maizey, with regards to that image i posted of the chipped plexi, it's really no big deal. The perspex that i get from you guys that's SMALLER or BIGGER than 3mm is always cut perfectly, but it's always the 3mm pieces that are a disaster on the edges. I don't mind though, 5 minutes of sanding and the chipped edges are gone. Also, with the volume of work that you guys do, you can't really be expected to sell plexi without a single chip on it...
Aah i see. I don't buy from the PTA west branch anymore, the stormvoel branch is much closer to me.Maizey wrote:Dear DAE JA VOO,
I am the training coordinator based in Pretoria West. You can say hi to Gareth and Danie for me the next time.
I try my best to buy the PCFormat magazine every month.
Anyway, cool stuff. Good to see you guys making an effort in the modding community.

Whooohoooo!!
And I was mentioned *blushes*
Wonderful on joining! Gosh I wish more companies would do this! Great stuff guys!
//Edit: I actually want to ask you something, would you guys be able to do some bending of perspex for me? I could do it, but I need it to be precise and I'm too lazy to redo everything if I do make a screwup.

Maizey ship for free. So if you're in their "catchment area" they'll ship to you. There is a Maizey in CT, give them a call and see if you're close enough to them. If you are, they'll ship to you for free, even if you only order a 100x100mm piece of plexiecthelion wrote:so how how will the shiiping be to say ... CT or Stellenbosch?

Wow, I cant answer quickly enough.
Wik1d - Bending of PX is possible, but only at our Wadeville branch. If the piece is not too big, you can throw it into an oven until rubberry and bend. (Beware of extreme heat)
ecthelion - We have 2 branches in CT
