Bread can be put back in the oven to be made fresh again!
I have worked on all versions of windows (excepting 2000, because it was taken off market) and I would definetly have to say that I found Windows ME to be the most problem free!
Sure Windows XP never crashes, but with the new look and all the snazzy features it turns your computer into a VW Beetle when it could be a Mercedes!

I will be putting Windows ME back on my system as soon as i have the time!

What planet are you from Missing_Link?
XP is way faster than any other Windows OS!
ME was as buggy as an OS can be! It starts off fine, but within a week the problems start cropping up!
Everyone knows that ME was a rushed attempt for microsoft to save face after it was found that 2000 couldn´t handle games very well! It was also just a testing platform for some of the new features in XP!

Windows XP is more resource hungry (and it can sometimes be ravenous) but there are many options u can turn down to tweak youre beetle.

Okay, firstly about the Voodoo drivers. There are no official final release drivers for Voodoo on XP. There are beta drivers, but they are buggy as anything. Use the 2000 drivers instead, they will work fine.

WinME sucks. I would rather run 98SE, cos at least it is stable. ME is so bad that MS have pulled it and no longer sell or support it.

XP (and 2000 as well, not sure tho) only has DOS emulation and not true DOS, which means it doesn´t handle a lot of stuff like DMA and some sound stuff etc. If you want to run them, dual boot with Win98. It´s the only solution I have found.

XP is very unstable on low resource systems, and yes 128Mb RAM _is_ low for XP. I also recommend a minimum of 256Mb. freakno1 also speaks the truth about upgrading. NEVER upgrade, ALWAYS format and fresh install. If you upgrade it leaves all sorts of old junk behind that you can pretty much never get rid of. You can turn off a lot of XP´s flashy GFX features, but they are not enough to up your performance significantly.

[Says me running a Celeron with 128Mb RAM and XP ]

some tweaks
click start run mmc
add the sevices snap-in
look at all the services running
you can stop all the services you don´t need be carefull and read the descriptions if you don´t understand them you propobaly arn´t supposed to stop them

good luck
