Best bang for buck workstation

Post by ZzzZ »

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advise, wisdom, input etc. We are planning a new computer lab with 30 computers. In the past we saved money only to pay later for repairs. We have a limited budget but would like to get computers that is reliable.

The computers will only be used for Office type programs and internet. Windows XP not Vista. No games what so ever.

Any advise as to the components, brand and approximate price etc for this type of workstation will be appreciated.

Thanks

Where are you based?

I have a client that specializes in this sort of thing.

Thanks for the replies but I need specifications. What would a reasonable price be for a bare bone system?

I would suggest Acer desktops, we use them here at work and they are awesome. Models like the Acer Desktop FH.

Good support too.
I think the desktops go for R4500 which includes XP and 3 year warranty

On the other hand HP and Dell are also very nice.

or double that, half the number of physical machines and bring maintenance down to virtually zero... :?:

HP desktops are very nice. I prefer their laptops, but you can still find some nice office desktop systems out there.

unfortunately im not clued up about barebone prices, perhaps you should start contacting businesses in your area and get quotes?

Why not set up dumb terminals, you'd save quite a bit on hardware :)

did you follow the links provided?...

like >>this one<<....

a dumb terminal replaces the traditional box with a network terminator and networked STDIO ports which permits multiple users to utilise the same machine, (pc or server)....

the terminal accepts standard keyboard, mouse and monitor: so from the users perspective there is zero difference between the two.

All I see is a dumb terminal acting thick on thin clients.
