Evil Advertiser takeover on the horizon

Post by Slasher »

This is to raise a concern...

With the whole For Sale section being locked to stop spam, it seems to have become a more prime target for our loved advertisers...

Would it be possible to implement an option of only allowing users with 50 posts or more to post in the for sale section? Or that you at least have to have been a member for 3 months before gaining access...

If 1 or 2 people did it it would be fine, but the amount of people joining just to pimp their items (And there are a few these days that expect higher prices than the item will cost new) on the forum, it floods the "chill out relax" area on the left bar and thus makes it non-fun to go looking for current topics up for discussion...

Just a thought to admins / Cameron...

Idea of thread : Discuss your feelings towards not allowing people to 1) put items in sale if they dont have enough posts...

Also another little gem - It is amazing how useless locking a sale thread has become. Now all the users do is recreate their thread each morning, effectively still bumping it up and yet their thread remains clean and unspammed... :? :?

This is a good idea, and I second the motion for something like this...

It would be better if the for sale section good be available to people who the forum members get to know. Just joining to post something for sale and never return again is no good.

Hell yeah...

Was aware of that from day 2 (Seeing as they could only recreate it on Day 2...)

I like this idea, and since we won't have individual post moderation until we get phpBB3, this will do.

30 seconds of searching the phpBB modifications database brought up this, which looks like it may do the job. I have no idea if it's compatible with the PHP-Nuke port of phpBB though (which is what is used here).

Right now it is supposed to be 20 posts before advertising, point me to them and I will take the appropriate action.

Mkay...

I am bored at work okay... felt I had to raise the sale spam issue...

Do I need to make my sig shorter? Just say so and I do it...

Check the second link 2 of my posts up... that one still exists as well...

Thing is, they dont 'bump' their thread... and if you delete it, they just create another one... hell, why not?

OK, Slasher, only the adverts from one week ago still remain in the for sale section, if they reappear I will delete them again until a lesson is learned!

The problem with spammers is that they never learn. They just carry on spamming.

Actually, I think the current bumping thing isn't a problem, their old post is deleted, and a new one made, thus no increase in post count firstly.

And if you want to sell something you actually want people to see that you are selling something, not everyone browses the for sale section permanently, and not many even visit page two.

Dunno if that made sense, don't care :)

i agree with having a minimum amount of posts before you can advertise anything, this also prevents ppl from scamming others like what happened to me, i got my cash back luckily but someone else might not. This will enable only trusted ppl who we know and have been on for a while to advertise anything.
when in doubt, paddle out... ;)
