The 'DSTV-PVR Hax' thread
Only nice thing with PVR is that you can record on a third channel...
If I had dstv (Only watch it at other peoples placed) I basically always watch boomerang, then I can record on another channel when someone else is watching a movie or whatever...
still wont pay so much money for DSTV... not worth it...

I've split the thread, those of you that want to discuss DSTV can go here http://www.pcformat.co.za/modules.php?n ... c&p=722447.
I'm going to respect lancelot's decision to lock the thread until he returns.

Thankyou admin!
Sorry I was a bit rude but I do believe that a topic is a topic and there are spam parts of the forum for anyone who wants to go off topic.
I know this was a bit of a headache for admin so the rest of the post will be civil.
Anyway I think I'll try put a new HDD in my dads PVR and try record onto that.
I will report any findings.
regards

Ill have a look later and see if i can get the HDD out of mine...

Check this out guys...
STORAGE
Hard drive
80 Gbyte minimum
I reckon its as easy as changing the hard drive?? The OpenTV OS is on the Flash rom, coz the Decoder still works when the Hard Drive breaks....
EDIT
but then..........................
-Partitioned hard drive, Operator vault and Subscriber access
-DES encryption secured HDD content

My apologies DJV I did not realise that DSTV allowed for making backups of what you have copied. And yes I was not thinking straight when I made that post Thanks Naughty for pointing out the legalities
JUSTICE, n A commodity which is a more or less adulterated condition the State sells to the citizen as a reward for his allegiance, taxes and personal service.

I want to but my dad has to buy the HDD-that and he's not sure it will work.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:I thought YOU were gonna do it?
I told him that he should live a little and be able to watch more T.V. with a little risk.
He didn't laugh.
I will win though-I might do it with out his concent but I'll mod that PVR.

now wheres the sense in that - since thats actually smaller than the one thats in there - which i think is a 160 gig (despite what the guy says in the other forum that its a maxtor 140gig - i think that some were 160gigs) - but partitioned so that the recording partition can handle 80 hours of recording timeor i could put like a 40gb i hav lying around in lol....
if you just want to open something and kill the warranty - then do it so that the tinkering makes some sort of sense ie install a 500gb harddrive - thats useful - replacing a 140/160gig drive with a 40gb one just isnt any sense at all

Naughty where did you get your noob degree? Did your mom teach you? Did you think i was actually being serrious about ptting a 40gb hdd in a pvr? obviously you did since you did a huge post on that fact. I WAS BEING SARCASTIC RETARD. The HDD in a PVR is either 80gb or 160gb, I forget at the moment.
If you actually READ my post(somthing your mom obviously forgot to teach you how to do) i am keen to put a 250gb HDD in because its afordiable, 500GB is out of the question for just having more recording time on the pvr, i cant pay for that when im trying to save for WC for my rig.
Now go learn your english again and come back when you pass grade 2, i was only saying 40gb hdd because i have one. not because i was being serious about hacking the pvr with it.
(BTW Installing a new hdd in the pvr doesnt have to "makes some sort of sense" i could install a HDD smaller than the original just to prove the point it can be done/ use it to write a guide to help people with more resources do the same thing, or just to say i modded my PVR...)
</Rant:=off>
(sorry guys i am just so over noobs who come and spam a thread with useless information...(especcially when they state facts that have allready been discussed in the thread)
