Security Sweep by the CIA

Post by Belix »

Our MD is a little nurotic. I think he thinks the mafia is after him or something. Before I did not care much except for the huge amount we pay to have a couple 'heavies' lurking around the office. This morning some other 'beefcake' arrives in my office demanding all the user and administrator passwords. Somewhat taken aback I said I'd have to clear it with the MD first. Yanking the MD out of a meting, he says to cooperate fully with these guys as they 'work for the CIA'. So, reluctantly I hand over all the admin passwords (obvioulsy I don't know the user passwords!!). Next he says I'll need to...wait for it...format EVERY machine, and reinstall it to his specifications. Now we're atalking 11 people who use their PC every day, all day! There is also numerous programmes that have been installed by outside companies to which I don't have the installation software - mine design programs, let alone patches, drivers, etc etc.

I think it's time I go home...

Hmmm trying to keep this company legal is like trying to stop Tribble from spamming...close to impossible :) . But hey it's about 95% legal at a guess. Even the arb stuff like Acrobat Writer was legit at last check. And people wonder why you only give them power user rights...

Perhaps the MD ate the mushrooms. I, apparently, don't eat the company prescribed diet...

Porn? Well my machine's clean anyhow.

Credentials? The boss oked it. Can harldy tell him to bugger off...

SARS? Unlikely, we've been audited a couple times and come out clean.

Nothing like someone coming in, kicking your dog, drinking your beer and changing the TV channel...where's their car? And my keys...

 hey! These people have feelings too!

Maybe it was SAFFACT looking for those MIA DVDs or CDs. Maybe those UMDs from those PSP or GTA3 ripped for the PS3.BTW the CIA won't come 2 SA by SAA. Then to get from ORT to JHB they would get caught on the N3 because some SOB in a taxi cut in front of the SAP and now we all in the ****. Next time I'm voting DP because these MCs are full of BS!

I think there is some other BS going on here...

Do you have full back-ups lying around somewhere? Either these guys are checking for illegalness stuffness, or there is something being covered up and they want to ensure that the data has been cleaned up...

Someone must be BSing you... Or stealing billions... Gazillions I say!

Oh Gee. The security experts found "many" viruses and "a number of programs reporting information to outside users". Since each "machine has a unique signature", we need to buy him a ...wait for it, this is the best part... an APPLE laptop as it is "far more secure". The only reason it's far more secure is because so few people could be bothered to write viruses for it!!

These people are idiots! They make it sound like the boss is specifically being targetted and watched! I suggested an abacus, as there is as yet no viruses that affect an abacus

are all the PC's the same, I mean hardware wise. IF they are then clone one of the HDD's, put it in a cupboard and do as they say. when they leave, put it all back.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

"or something" would be my guess. Oh well, things happen so slowly in my company, they'll probably die of boredom waiting. I ain't reinstalling all the PCs...which are mostly non-uniform.
