How To: Modding guides in the PCF mag, by DAE_JA_VOO!
How's it guys
From August 2007 you guys will see 2 new pages in the magazine. Those two pages will be a modding guide written by me
They will be How To: guides, explaining how to do small mods.
I've already submitted the first two guides to Cameron.
I think from now on i'm gonna ask every month what YOU GUYS would like me to make a guide about, making the magazine (well, my two pages ) a bit more interactive
Unfortunately 2 pages isn't enough to describe a mod (even a simple one) in as much detail as i would like, so i'll be posting far more detailed versions of the guides up on My Website (www.daejavoo.com), so have a look there when you have a chance. My website is still under construction though, it should be up by the end of the month.
Happy Modding

I know diddly about modding, so I think its great idea Dae!
I think a good place to start would be making a side window for your pc!
I would certainly like to see how you do it, before I attempt it (which I am planning to do).
Good luck man!

Yeah nobody in my hometown has ever heard of a dremel, let alone supplies them... Good luck though and I must say I've enjoyed your mods so far. Haven't brought myself to attempting them; my DVD drive is too new... Could you perhaps do an in-depth mod on how to create your own liquid cooling system from something like a car radiator? lol I've been looking in that direction for quite a while now. Just need a radiator and a waterblock or two...

Well, i've only ever done that once myself, and i wouldn't recommend it. In general, car radiators are too big or just not the right shape. I used a Nissan Bakkie's Heater Core. Didn't do a damn thing for my temps, so i took it out. It's also usually frikken HIDEOUS looking. That doesn't matter to some people, but it makes a world of difference to me.unr3al007 wrote:Could you perhaps do an in-depth mod on how to create your own liquid cooling system from something like a car radiator? lol I've been looking in that direction for quite a while now. In my honest opinion, rather don't do water cooling at all if your only option is full on makeshift watercooling.
Anyway, i was just about to post here. Mikdog dropped me a PM now now, he said that someone wrote a letter to PCF about me. I didn't even see it. After finding my PCF (looked for it for like 10 minutes) i read the letter. Put such a smile on my face
Those of you who DO buy PCF, check it out, those who don't, here's the deal:
I got an email from a pensioner (73). He told me that he tried my LED Optical drive mod and fried his writer. I asked him for some pics and he sent them to me. I saw the mistake he had made and it guaranteed a fried writer. So i offered to buy a writer, do the mod, and then send it off to him. I also managed to get the writer for him at cost, so in the end, the modded BenQ 18X DL-DVD writer, shipping included, worked out to something like R270. He got the writer and was very happy with it.
What a nice guy he was, really. I haven't come across such a nice person in a very long time.

Nice when people are like that. Heck half the people whose PCs I service are downright grumpy all the time, looking for flaws... Thanks for your advice though. I guess I'll stick to aircooling until I can get a proper liquid system. I have modded my own case though, thought I might send a pic or two and see what you guys think: I still have to add my second CCFL and my V360 doesn't take the best pictures, but thats mostly it...
