If you want a free anti virus program, go for AVG. I know many ppl wont agree with me on AVG, but thats the best one for me.
EDIT: I just went to the 1st page, i see alot of people agrees on AVG

Norton isn't an AV program. It's random lines of code that some drunk dude spewed onto his keyboard one night while he was watching 7de Laan.MIA wrote:Why is it useless? I have never seen anyone or have any reason to believe its useless.
What's useless is Norton, really crappy AV program.
LINKResting at the bottom of the barrel were Kaspersky and eScan at nine percent, and AVG, which detected only eight percent of malicious software in addition to producing many false positives.
Sure, it's like 8 months old, but it's most certainly still valid.

I used Norton quite a few years ago. Hmmm... let me think... it was about... 6 or 7 years ago. It was really not the most pleasant experience. I had it running on a P3 733 with 64MB RAM (which happened to be quite a beast at the time) and Norton CHOWED RAM. It was so resource hungry. Along with that, it was no good at protecting my machine.Rayne wrote:DAE tell me your personal experience with Norton also please mate.
It may have improved since, but based on the opinions of most, it hasn't.

I've been running AVG for a few weeks and it seems fine though I haven't run a full pc scan since I installed as soon as McAfee expired so I wouldn't know about that.
But it isn't as seamless as McAfee was. So I'm gonna go for another, just too lazy to research for a free AV.
Norton.... oh the bad memories.

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.
Haven't read the entire thread, but Norton 2008 is supposedly a lot better than its predecessors. Still, whilst there are packages out there like Nod32 and Avast, I really can't see myself recommending Norton in any great hurry. But if you want to use it, the more power to you.Rayne wrote:Well I need to find out what I can find out before I make a mistake again.
I used Norton 2007 a full year and never once encountered any problem though and 2008 is rated tops. Hence why I don't understand all the negative replies.

a) what you been smoking
b) what are you running? a 386???
I install Avarst onto every PC that I go near and I have NEVER had anyone tell me that they are having virus issues.
AVG is a piece of crap. its unreliable and i'd rather have no antivirus than have AVG on my PC. I reinstalled Vista the other day. first thing that went on was Avast.

Avast IS slow! 40+ minutes to build it's database, lmao? I can scan my whole system 3 times with most if not all other products in such time. Stop being biased to freeware crap, it's free for a reason.
Damn fanboys measuring everything by the one thing they know.
I'll go without an AV before I install that rubbish again.
