Best Free Anti-Virus

Post by Tiza »

Yes I did search "Search found 3432 matches".

Okay so I want to know what is the best free anti-virus.

AVG is not that good, only found 2 of 12 viruses in this one test.
AntiVir makes my pc bomb out so no.
Avast is to slow.

So I am currently using AOL Active Virus shield cause I read it was the best but I want a second opinion.

What do you guys think is the best free anti-virus and even anti-spyware.

Anti Spyware: Spybot: Search & Destroy.

Anti-Virus: AVG is great, if you update it everyday (it does it automatically, no fuss) and you'll be fine.

"Oh dear -- AVG 7.5 does worst of the lot with polymorphic viruses: only 2 of 12 detected. It is also the only rated "Mediocre" for detection of 130 000 PUPs. And just last October I took out a two-year sub for 5 licences."

That doesn't sound good :(

Just like South Africans to vote for what isn't good for them.

I'm surprised that you find Avast slow? In which way is it slow? As in it slows down your PC or it takes fages to scan anything? I can attest to the latter but not the former as I barely notice it running on my PC. As for AVG, used to use it, it's not that reliable anymore. Avast is also very friendly if you use GPRS to update! ;) It has the smallest incremental updates I've ever seen.

It seems that the best bet is to fork out for a paid AV - why not choose BitDefender ? (2 years License)
Only thing is then you wont be able to use the Spybot Solution aswell.. because those two are incompatible..

AVAST SLOW???!!!!

a) what you been smoking

b) what are you running? a 386???

I install Avarst onto every PC that I go near and I have NEVER had anyone tell me that they are having virus issues.

AVG is a piece of crap. its unreliable and i'd rather have no antivirus than have AVG on my PC. I reinstalled Vista the other day. first thing that went on was Avast.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

Tried Norton. I lost my hard drive. *censored words*.
Mac afee or however you spell it. Same as norton just a different name.
PCCillin. Wasnt XP compatible to there.

AVG. Fast and user friendly.
AVS. Used by the otehr ppl that plays WoW and says they only use it because AVG will start needing subsription.

So AVS is worth a try I think. Currently using AVG untill they go the way of the pocket pinchers.

I would recommend Bitdefender. I have never had a virus or spyware.

also, its really spyware u should be worrying about, not viruses. and rootkits. bitdefender has a built in rootkit detector, dunno how effective it is but I have never had a virus, spyware or rootkit on my pc.

That's one of the worst AV reviews I've ever seen. No real in depth analysis!

Check this out for a proper review.
