Okay so yesterday while going to work I left my E6420 clocked at 3.2Ghz @ 1.425Vcore (but with the Vdroop reading 1.34V) the memory at DDR900 4 4 4 10 T2 @ 2.173Vdimm running Orthos. Well core temps as I mentioned before fairly high, going into the 60's now, but rock solid and stable for 5 hours of Orthos. Could have left if on for longer, but if the thing still running stable after 5 hours, I would say it's okay, and I had to finish some other things on the PC so I figured it's okay for me.

Hey guys hope you can help.

My E6600 is now running 3.64 @ 1.5v
My memory is running 900 4.4.4.12.t1 2.175
It seems stable enough here doesnt crash under everyday use , survives superpi
, temps average 40 celsius.

What do I need to do to go higher ?

Is there a reason you want to go higher? That's a good clock as it is, anymore won't really reap any worthwhile benefit for the extra strain you put on your system.

No. That's totally pointless. Wait for 45nm quad. They are INSANELY fast.

I got a dumb question...

But its been bothering me.

I got an E6600. If I drop the Multiplier to 6, and up the FSB to 400 [Yes, Ill be getting same stock speeds, I know]. That would make my FSB:RAM ratio 1:1 right.

If I am right about this.

Would I get any actual performance gain?

Can anyone please tell me how well the Intel 946GZ chipset overclocks?

I didn't have much choice when buying my mobo, and I want to be able to squeeze out as much clocks as I can.

Thanks.

What board is it exactly?

When you say Intel, you referring to the chipset or make of board? I know you said 946 chipset, but just making sure.

Cause if its the make of board, you wont be able to overclock at all. Best you can do is change your ram timings.

The bios is very very limited in overclocking potential but it can overclock fairly decently. As I said in another thread, got our workshop machine with the same board as you have running on an E4500 @ 3ghz without any sweat and could probably get some more mhz if you pushed

CPU vcore = 1.45
DRR2 voltage +0.2
FSB volt = + 0.2 (but i give my mobo +0.1)
(G) MCH Overvoltage = +0.1
CPu host freuency(Mhz) = 400
CPU clock ratio x8
(Ram must be able to handle 800)

EDIT

i'm still a Noob in OC so please don't flame me and am I right about what i posted ?

hmm... I seem to have run into a problem.

My current PSU (Some no-name 500W) only has 20-pins for the ATX connector.

My mobo's connector is 24. So it seems I can't overclock (Not even taking the FSB to 300) without Windows giving me the BSOD just after booting up.

Dammit.
