Good job Bazik!

I just wish you would be more specific in your overclocking steps. Also tbh its not very well planned

You should start off by saying what apps are required then what to disable in bios then to start OC.

(P.s Im not complaining just my opinion so that the text is more clear for the n00bs)

What I would like to learn from this thread is mainly about voltages. When upping your ram speed which voltages do you increase? I increase Vdimm.. (this correct?)

Same with cpu, which voltages - Vcore?

Also, did you know that ram at lower Mhz with tighter timings @ 1T is faster than a high Mhz with loose timings @ 2T.

Wasn't planned ;) Just written.

Well the best way to learn is to play. I think I will update it tonight. If anybody wants to draft it or whatever, please do so.

As for voltages, spot on :)

1t and 2t command rate are beyond my knowledge. I only work on 2T as that is all this chipset supports. I have only been OCn since I got my c2d :P

Thanks but there is another voltage setting for cpu (cant remember whats it called now). What does increasing help with then?

Thats why I like the 680i chipset :P

Not sure what you are talking about. It should only be vCore. 1T isn't that great when you have 500fsb.

Busy digging deeper into the mysteries of my new system (can't boot up at the moment, busy building and breaking at home and to much dust, so the system is covered up and will remain so for a while, so I am using the little bit of paperwork I got wiht the system)...

Mobo is a Foxconn P4M8907MB Link

Chipset VIA P4M890 + VT 8237A

I haven't heard to much about this chipset :(

This is what I feared :(

Ok, I will ask this question here because in the other thread I asked nobody answered... my mobo says it supports DDR2 533Mhz RAM, which makes sense as the BUS is 266Mhz (and it isn't supposed to go up :) )

so... if I have 667Mhz RAM installed that should mean that I should be able to up the BUSS to 333Mhz without the memory being strained beyond its capacity right?

In my situation my mobo want handle that (in the bios the highest I can take it is 300... :( )

Second question... (ok, not a C2D OC question but a OC question...)...

I have a 7600GS card that is a underclocked offering from Nvidia... would it be wise to up frequencies before installing active cooling (this card only has passive cooling)...?

I won't recommend it my friend. IMO passive ftl. BUT screw active cooling, get an 80buck 120mm and put it on :D

I guess just bolting a fan on the existing heat sink will help some :)

then, in the nvidia OC utility it has an option to detect optimum frequencies, how accurate is this because it really detects much higher than the settings are at present...

i'm glad i asked you to make this thread.

After reading in this forum about the OC ability of the C2D chips i decided to try OC my new e6300.

I am glad to say that its not even a week old and its already sitting at 3.0GHz with a FSB of 430. my ram is at 860MHz. Had to drop it to 2x instead of 2.5x

I'm getting a Enzotech Ultra-X when wikid decides to order again. :) ???
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

How sure are you your overclock is stable?

Have you tested it with apps like Memtest, Prime95, Orthos etc. ?

Check your temps while running orthos at priority 5 or 6 - see how that pushes your cpu

Nice temps KB. Yea. I don't go over 400fsb when I want it totally stable.

Max I have had like 4 hours dual orthos was around 495.
