New Aliens game for PC in 2009

Post by NealeDeadlyAlien »

Just to let all aliens fans (Including myself :) ) that there is a new Aliens game coming for PC in 2009. I don't know if anyone has heard of this but Sega and Gearbox has teamed up to make the ultimate Aliens saga for PC which the first one will only appear between 2008/2009

Those who were fans of the movies/games, well it seems like they haven't forgotten the old classic 1980's alien movies. I remember the last alien game I played was Aliens 3 for Sega 14 years ago 8O and of course Aliens vs Predator however that does not count. Oh and there will be no predators, they mainly will be focusing on the Aliens. So it sounds extremely exciting.

Apparently gearbox is looking for an AI programmer as they say
"Aliens FPS to Feature 'Ultra-Realistic Game AI" so it sounds like the Aliens will be extremelly smart and of course the usage of DX10 which could make this the game of the year. Let's hope they don't disappoint us

Later!!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more KB, Doom 3 Rocked with its scary elements. I also hope it will be scary as AVP2, man that game freaked me out when I first played it. However no doubt will they use DX10 which should hopefully improve on the effect of the game.

Doom3 was not scary... It was predicatable and BORING... Monotonous... It reminded me of movies like The Grudge and The Ring... Utter junk...

AVP 1 was crap scary... 2 was but okay...

AVP 1 and Clive Barkers Undying are the 2 most scary games EVER... Nothing has yet come close to it...

Considering the game will be released in 2009, it will obviously at the LEAST use dx10... 2 years is still far away guys...

@Slasher:You entitled to your own opinion  I can't really remember AVP 1 but it was rather scary.

2 years maybe along way however in that year I bet a 8800card will be the minimum requirements, it will be quite scary to see. However let's just hope they don't disappoint us.

I'm so glad someone else mentioned this game, I remember crapping myself out with this game! It was really freaky! It took me almost 40 hours of gameplay time to finish it because I got too scared at times to progress any further, but going back to it now I'm not sure if it would still be scary? In fact the first time I played it was the demo that was on one of the earlier PCF Cover Discs (God Bless you guys at PCF HQ :D)
Doom 3 I must admit made me jump, but only because it was let's turn off the lights and jump out at you kind of scary...

Ahhhh.... AvP 1 I'll never forget how I screamed like a girl (Ya laugh it up, LOL) in the first mission when I went down that corridor and you hear over the radio that OPs has lost contact with some team that you were suppose to meet up with, so he tune's you to double time it, so I sprint down the corridor next thing one of those $#()%#$ aliens jump out from the air duct in the ceiling... I lasted about a minute... :P
I'm not actually sure between AvP 1 or 2 which I found more scary? I'm leaning towards AvP 1! ;)

But good old System Shock 2, anyone feeling nostalgic? :D I think what made this game such a good one (apart from everything! ;-)) was the sense of being completely alone on this massive Space ship (the Von Braun), occasionally getting directions from some crew member that has survived the catastrophe, which you've yet to figure out yourself, that's ravaged the ship.
In fact this part of the game was mentioned in a past issue of PCF for being one of the scariest moments in gaming history! You work your way for a long time to get to this crew member which is on a different level to where you started, only there's one big a** surprise when you get to her! ;-)

BioShockis the spiritual successor of System Shock.
I've seen some trailers. They look sweet! Check ur NAG cover DVD's.
Irrational Games originally conceived of its cult-classic hybrid game System Shock 2 as a "spiritual successor" to the original game. And Irrational's next game will, in turn, be a "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2. We're pleased to bring you the first official details on BioShock, a new game that will attempt to further the open-ended, emergent gameplay of the previous games by offering even more choices for players to creatively interact with the world around them and to solve the challenges that face them.

What happened to the previous owners of this complex that made them abandon it in the 1940s? And why is the complex being used again?

While System Shock 2 represented what Irrational general manager Ken Levine describes as "a convergence of technology and commercialism" (that game took place on a corporate-sponsored starship), BioShock will instead represent "a convergence of technology and biological life," or more specifically, genetics. It's important to note: BioShock is not a sequel to any of the System Shock games, nor does it have any official relation to those games. But like the previous games, this one will offer a horror-themed gameplay experience in which what you observe, and what happens to you, will be tempered by your own choices. "[At Irrational], we think emergence is the future," says Levine.

BioShock takes place in a mysterious genetic laboratory. Other than that the complex is strewn with corpses (also for reasons unknown), nothing is clear to you. From what you can tell, the laboratory complex is apparently a holdover from World War II--you'll see remnants of the war as well as peeling paint throughout the complex. Something apparently happened back then that caused the complex to be abandoned by whoever was using it. In fact, the complex has only recently come back into use by the scientists circa the early 21st century, and advanced, top-secret contraptions used for arcane biotechnology experiments have been hastily bolted into the rotting walls of the complex.

You'll explore the complex from a first-person perspective, similar to System Shock 2 or Deus Ex, and you'll find it inhabited by three primary "castes" of creatures, which Irrational is currently referring to as "drones," "predators," and "soldiers"--creatures that might once have been human. We were shown a few concept images of creatures that were part human, part monster. Exactly how these creatures came to be this way isn't clear, but Irrational has suggested that some of them are actually fused with human anatomy: human lungs are grafted onto their bodies to breathe, and the human arm dangling off to the side can still hold and fire a gun.

Yet instead of being controlled individually by different kinds of artificial intelligence, these creatures apparently comprise what the developer calls an "AI ecology." Essentially, Irrational decided to try to create an instinctive behavior in the creatures that inhabit the game in lieu of creating individual characters with scripted lines (because characters like these have a tendency to be misused by players in unexpected ways, and eventually they will break down). Instead, each of the three creature types is driven by overriding motivations--a concept that was inspired by, among other things, watching wildlife TV shows with animals and insects that have comprehensible, biologically intuitive, but decidedly non-human behaviors.

Many of BioShock's inhabitants aren't human. At least, not anymore.

For whatever reason, the drones' daily routine involves roving the compound in search of corpses, which they feed on, digest, and process the dead flesh into usable, recyclable genetic material (similar to the way cows digest plant matter in their four stomachs). They then return to the complex with their harvest. Predators, which may have originally been conceived of as warriors for the mysterious scientists, have instead turned on the colony and developed a taste for drones. The extremely tough soldiers were put in place to guard drones, presumably as a response to predators.

AVP1 was one of the scariest games i have ever played, all thoes dark corridors with just a tiny little flare you can use and suddenly you hear a screech and see a alient crawling along the wall, or thoes weird little face huggers that you can hardly see just hear! man that game rocked!
when in doubt, paddle out... ;)

More news on this game

It took me awhile to find this thread :?
Working on Alien FPS "a dream come true"
Thursday 29-Nov-2007 1:00 PM Randy Pitchford tells us how good the game will be

Gearbox Software regards working on the Alien first-person shooter for Sega as "a dream come true", says the developer's president Randy Pitchford.

Although currently sworn to secrecy, Pitchford described the game as "amazing" and told us that "it's going great" when we asked him what was happening with the title during an interview this morning. Though he's hardly going to say otherwise is he?. For fear of a fanboy backlash as much as anything else.

"I know a lot of people are interested in hearing us talk about that", he added on the game. Yep, we'd count ourselves amongst that group.

Advertisement:
In fact, we'd cut our Quake III Arena trigger fingers off to get a glimpse of it right now.

Alien, of course, is no stranger to videogames but it's been a real mixed bag of xenomorph blasting to date. Big guns, big aliens, big horror, big gore, all reproduced with today's technology. What could possibly go wrong?

Gearbox's Alien FPS is expected on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - but not until 2009

More news and a brief description on the game
Sega has sent out a press release regarding the recently announced Gearbox title, "Aliens: Colonial Marines."

SEGA REVEALS DETAILS OF UPCOMING ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES VIDEO GAME

First-Person Shooter Based on Popular Motion Picture Franchise Coming to Xbox 360®, PLAYSTATION®3, and PC in Late 2008

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (February 21, 2008) – SEGA® of America Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today revealed details of the highly-anticipated squad-based first-person shooter video game, Aliens: Colonial Marines™. Licensed through an exclusive agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and developed by Gearbox Software, the game will be available on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC in late 2008.

In Aliens: Colonial Marines, players are part of a United States Colonial Marine squad and must prepare to face an Aliens assault more intense and horrific than ever before. Driven by a compelling and original story penned by renowned writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, Aliens: Colonial Marines will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films while leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Aliens experience.

Packing classic Aliens weaponry ranging from pulse rifles to flamethrowers as well as brand-new equipment and skills all within a squad-based combat system, players will become an elite United States Colonial Marine. Featuring claustrophobic environments, a brooding soundtrack, and a multitude of surprises and shocks, players will battle against menacing alien hordes in strikingly detailed levels that include the stark interiors of the abandoned Sulaco and unique environments created specifically for the game.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will feature a story driven single-player mode and an all-new four player co-op mode allowing players to share the chilling experience with three friends. In co-op mode, each player will assume the persona of a United States Colonial Marine and have a distinct role to play in the completion of every mission. Additionally, more multiplayer modes will be revealed later in the year that will complete the Aliens video game experience.

A great single-player campaign, co-op mode, and multiplayer!? Someone wake me up from this dream!

Really looking forward to a Alien game, would mind a good predator one but aliens are just as good. My only questions is about the aliens themselves, how many diffrent types of aliens are there going to be or is this going to be a one wave after another of the same aliens, throw in a facehugger to make it scary and then a queen. Although I hope they take some inspiration from the books and comics since they had a few good ideas in there.
But generally I think it should be good especially on next-gen.

Now that is just something I have to agree on.
Raccon City on the CryEngine 2, would absolutely be amazing... :D
