What this forum may look like in the future...
For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, I follow the development of phpBB very closely (as I run two forums and am co-admin for a third one). Specifically, the next version, phpBB 3. Although it's still in beta, the main phpBB site got updated to the new version this morning, with a new style that looks very Web 2.0.
I've spent the past hour taking a look, and I must say that I'm very impressed. If the changes made are going to filter though to these forums, Ron is going to be very, very happy.
I must however emphasise that it will be a while before we see it here though. First, the new version has to come out of beta (which I anticipate will be in the next few weeks), then it has to be ported over to phpNuke (the CMS backend that it used on this site), then Cameron has to actually find the time, energy and willpower to actually upgrade...
But, that aside, I've haven't been this excited over a piece of code for a very long time...
(For those who want to take a look, it's over here. The actual feature changes/additions are here.)

wow...for a second I got phpBB and vB mixed up.
The site will look awsome once we get phpBB 3!
Also I like the vB 3 look as well.

There's just one thing that must NEVER disappear.
That damn useful side bar. If that goes, then so do I. It's only of the main reasons why I like this site so much (other than the people here). That side bar to the left makes life so damn easy...

It looks different, but that's just the (new) default style. I'm sure that a plethora of new styles will be made (as I hang out on the development forums, I've already seen a few early ones), so I'm sure that Cameron will pick one that he feels the majority of the forum will be comfortable with.lancelot wrote:I think it looks ****!
I know that the new style and new features are different, and take some getting used to, and people do take time to adjust (particularly the older members). But, give it time and I'm sure you'll adjust just fine. Remember when the look and feel of this site was changed a few months back? A lot of people didn't really like it, but over time we've adjusted and have accepted it.
