PCF March 2007

Post by Stuart »

Alright, I try not to be too critical, cos I really enjoy reading PCF, but is anyone else getting irritated with the mistakes in this month's edition? I only started reading last night, but ...

Page 15 ends a sentence, with the article continuing on page 16, but page 16 stars midway through a sentence. Obviously, they've left something out.

Then the "The singularitarian is here" box out on pp. 20-21 just ends halfway through a sentence, and the article doesn't continue anywhere.

And then, in order to win a Canon Printer on pg. 27, you have to answer the question, "How much processing power does this CPU boast?" I entered, with this answer: "PCF CANON + FULL NAME + IT'S A PRINTER, NOT A CPU." Of course, I wouldn't mind winning a Core 2 Duo instead of the printer, but they'll probably end up sending a motherboard!

They did correct the printer issue on the front page of PCF site Here
Although it is still almost unforgiveable.

I'm so sick of the errors in PCF. When i read the mag i come across so many errors. I've posted numerous times about it but it seems that nothing gets done.

The new look is nice, but there are just SO many errors this month - not only the unfinished sentences, but extremely poor grammar and writing style in many of the articles. Really, it looks like they could have been written by a twelve year old. Doesn't PCF have anyone check the articles before they go to print?

I don't want to sound over critical here - I've been buying PCF for years without complaint, but in recent months the number of errors has increased dramatically. I've decided to stop buying the magazine, simply because all of the mistakes detract from any pleasure in reading the articles.

Depends on what it's advertising.

I once saw an advert printed upside down in the PCF before. But at least it made sense, as it was advertising the MS Flight Simulator game.

Okay, his article had the worst grammar, but the others were pretty bad too... My point is that you would expect them to read through the articles and fix the spelling and grammar at least.

Oops ... never saw that! Guess I'm not winning anything for my entry, huh?

I also initially thought it might be on purpose, but the more I looked at it, the less sense it made. So it's either an incredible mess up bu Intelligence Publishing, or a seriously nonsensical ad campaign.

Yeah, I noticed that as well ... on the letters page. But at least they finished the sentence there.

I couldn't agree more! For R40 per magazine you'd think that they would be able to afford a decent copy editor. ;)

... yet Huisgenoot is the most popular magazine in this country. Just shows you how gullible some people are.

Back on topic - it does seem like the quality of the mag has gone down, a sure sign that Stacey isn't doing her job.
