Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
I'm looking for the Samsung S23A950D screen. It's a 120hz, 3D LED screen. The problem is that it is on take2s site since the start of last month. I've been waiting for a release date but I cant find any news on when it will be released. What triggered my interest was the ad in either pcf or nag. I figured the screen looked weird and started looking for 120hz screens anyway.

Like I said I cant find pricing or avalibility.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
While we are looking into screens anyone got any ideas on how 3D screens work? Someone mentioned that the cheap passive 3D is better than your active shutter lenses as its possible to swap the glasses and split 2 images from 1 screen.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Well, I know they've done with the PS3 on a 3D TV, so I assume it would be possible for a PC too, but that would make the controller implications a bit confusing...

I'm more interested in doing it with a ps3. Brings better split screen action

That is a lot of money for a 23-inch screen... I shudder to think what the 27-inch will cost.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
The XL2370 was also hefty at R3300 launch price. R5k is the best I've seen it on so far. It comes with an active shutter glass that goes for around R900-R1k, it supports 2D->3D it seems and ofcoarse it is native 120hz. I suspect the 27" is going to retail for R7k.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Yeah, the XL2370 was an expensive little bugger. I'd want to see one of these in action before I actually fork out that kind of cash for it.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
I'll let you know how it is. ETA wednesday. Won't be able to upload pictures though. It will be more of a motion feeling since my primary idea is to get all my games running at 120fps as the screen can do 120hz.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
The only games that comes to mind right away that won't run at 120 Hz is Crysis, Crysis 2 and Metro 2033.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Sorry, what I meant was that your GPUs won't give you a constant 120 FPS on those games.

The verdict is being awaited. 7pm tonight the screen will be up and ready to impress or make me frown.

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Ok peeps I've tasted 120hz... its like chocolate melted to perfection to the point of being able to sip it like milk. SWEEEEEEET!
Here is my quick rundown of my new Samsung S23A950D full hd 3d screen. It is OLED meaning less power used but that is not why the screen is awesome.
To enable 120hz you first need to change your output settings on your graphics card. Nvidia will have 1080p and HDTV. Do not select that as it will stuck your refresh at 60hz. Go down to your PC outputs and select your resolution. It will then give the 120hz option.
Another thing to take into account the screen does NOT support Nvidia 3D. You will need to install the TriDef driver from the cd or internet to get 3D up and going.
Once the software is installed you hit the 3d button on your screen and select your 3d type. The monitor supports 2D -> 3D and even your windows desktop becomes a sight to behold. Your other modes to select are alternating frames (seems AMD supports it better), left-right and top-bottom 3D modes.
Like I said I bought this screen for 120hz above all other things. But even I was amazed at how good 2d to 3d can look. It is still a developing tech and the angles are no where near perfect but dammit it looks good. Black Ops didn't wow me too much. Borderlands looked good but still a bit artificial. Starcraft 2 on the other hand looked stunning and better than I could have imagined.
So now for some other things to mention
The base of the screen is flat and all input goes into the stand. The screen can be bent at an 20 degree angle at max or at max recommended by samsung. The presentation on the quick start and manual is a bit lacking as I wondered why and what to do. It was not as forth coming as my previous XL2370.
Now that I covered the basics of the screen what is my verdict?
The screen is good, it looks great, and it is expensive. It goes for anything from R5k to R6k depending on the retailer. It has 1 pair of samsung 3d glasses (active shutters) and I can instantly say I am loving this screen for the little time I have spent with it so far. Its 3D is not blocked by nvidias 3d vision so even AMD card owners can play games in 3D on this.
4/5 stars

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Sounds good. Just a pity it's so crap expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. I shudder to think what the 27-inch will go for...
BTW, you don't find that the left-hand corner of the screen hangs a bit because of the L-shape?

Does the fact that the screen doesn't support nVidia's 3D prevent you from playing their games in 3D or how does that work?

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
@ hanging. No, not at all. The screen is thin. I speak under correction but less than 1cm. Its between 5mm thick so that part is light.
@ 3D. You install a TriDef driver/app that allows you to use 3D in any game. You just cant use the nvidia control panel to do so. It wont even detect anything.
Here is something that was found on the monitors 3D. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monito ... 950_4.html

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Mmm... I'd get a screen like that purely for the 120Hz, I wouldn't necessarily use the 3D (maybe a little).

Re: The 22" (and larger) LCD Thread
Well I went in only for the 120hz. The 3D was a bonus. I would like nvidia to be able to do sequencial frames so I can stick to 120hz. I have not fully tried the stereo scopic but I am fully enjoying the higher refresh.
