Project: Modular (56k warning)

Post by Oj »

I've been wanting to mod something for quite a while now. Christmas presented the opportunity...

Lets see...

Image

What have we here?

Image

Oh look; a dremel! What else?

Image

Diamond cutting discs...

Image

A flex extension! Perfect...

Now, what to mod...? Case? Na... Keyboard? Tried already... Mouse? Weird... PSU? Now that's just crazy... Or is it? Lets see...

Image

Nice el cheapo donar. BUT THOSE WIRES!!!!

Image

Really really pathetic... And that "grill"!

Image

Wow... What an amazing 12v rail! Well at least it's no loss to me if it dies  Lets see what we can do...

Image

Blue case, 1x 80mm blue LED fan, 1x 80mm green LED fan. Or

Blue case, 2x 80mm blue LED fans. Or

Image
Image

Black outside, chrome inside, 2x 80mm blue LED fans. Or

Image
Image

Silver outside, chrome inside, 2x 80mm blue LED fans. Quite a choice...

Lets start with

Image

(It was a toss up between that and the very first (with a green fan), I was undecided, DA_JA_VOO chose it, and so it shall be :P), and move on to

Image

afterwards - once I have some practice

Bigger Ideas

Ok, very nice, but hasn't this been done before (Buying something pre-painted doesn't count)?

Enter PROJECT: MODULAR

Yup, you guessed it, I'm going turn this PSU into something exotic... Something... Modular! Basically what I'm going to do is snip ALL of the wires inside the PSU and attach female molex, etc, connectors to them. They will be poking out the front. Then take what I've snipped off, attach male connectors to the snipped end and sleeve them.

Work will begin in about a week and a half - need some $$$ first

Big thanks to Wik1d who is giving me hints and tips!

I'm going to cut the windows later today, wish me luck! If at all possible, I will post an update tomorrow, otherwise expect something on Saturday!

could it maybe be Sketch Up?

gonna be an interesting mod to see... so you going molex with
the wires... wanted to do one as well, but wanted to go something
like RCA or stereo jacks... (ok know that either of these couldn't
do the job, just mean something else)

just something that doesn't fit the ordinary...

Methinks XLR is too cumbersome...even the bulkhead ones are very large at the back-end where the wires get soldered on.
