CORE 2 DUO!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by -UNSTABLE- »

I am in the process of getting a new pc, i want to get core 2 duo but cant afford the expensive E6600 OR E6700, so i was wondering what you can overclock the E6400 to?
Thinking about getting the new 680SLI motherboards.

Our E6300 was able to reach 2.592GHz using a 370MHz FSB at 1.400V (up from 1.320V stock):
This is what Anandtech achieved on a stock cooler. They didn't go for highest possible clock but for best stability. Go look at this link, its a chart of that forum's users and what they have achieved in the OCíng of their cpu's

You first need to see how well the 680SLI overclocks. The E6300 and the E6400 will overclock very high, as long as you have nice cooling (if you are going to push voltage into them). You can clock them high on stock cooling, but I would caution you not to push voltage into the chips with stock cooling (although it has been done successfully, it is always a risk).

My E6400 is running at 2.66Ghz with stock cooling, and stock voltage
A friend is running his E6300 @ 3ghz with a little bit of voltage, and a Gigabyte Rocket Pro cooler. I have taken my chip to 3.2, but it needs voltage, and on current cooling, I am not prepared to do it.

It is most likely either you RAM or that board will limit big overclocks, not the chip. So do research into the board and the RAM first, as the chip should OC

Nf680 i's overclock very very well. Just go and read the review of the evga 680i board at vr zone. They were able to reach 488mhz fbs with a conroe and 458 with a kentsfield.

And take into account this was with an older version bios a new version has been released and the guy who did the review feels they can go higher with the new bios.

The nforce 680i is the board to get if you want feautures and overcloking. Problem is heard it might only be available in SA in January. :(

Get a team extream ram kit it's probaly best value for money at the moment. If your main priority is gaming try to get 2 gig.

That Scythe is an awesome cooler. But xpensive. Try and get a Zalman 9700 or something similiar for Air cooling.

Getting prices now is a bit useless :?
A lot will change between now and January when Vista is released. Get a quote when you decide to buy.
