suggestions needed for new CPU cooler, please :)
Hi
I need to get a new CPU cooling solution, and was looking @ the following options:
Thermaltake CL-P0071 4 in 1 Heatpipe Sonic Tower CPU Cooler
Thermaltake CL-P0268 Mini Typhoon CPU Cooler
Zalman CNPS6500B-AlCu Intel CPU Cooler
Thermaltake CL-P0257 Blue Orb II CPU Cooler
Thermaltake CL-P0025 SilentTower Heatpipe CPU Cooler
I have a ECS FC22 motherboard, with a LGA775 Pentium 4 D 3.0GHz Dual Core CPU, which at this stage is running rather hot on the standard fan. The PC will run fine for about an hour or so, and then I can hear the fan speed-up, and the heat at the back of the PC is much hotter.
My case bearly just just fits the motherboard (I had a hard time getting a caes big enough to fit the motherboard, and the CPU is about 10 - 20 CM away from the 400W PSU, which has a 12cm fan, pointing rigt at the CPU. I also have 8cm case fan in front, and the motherboard has a small 4cm exhuast fan not to far from the CPU. The case itself has one of those exhaust pipes on the side panel, but without a fan. The northbridge which is rather close to the CPU also has a fan, and my Geforce 7900GT has a Zalman fan, which is rather quiet.
Thus, I'm looking for something that can cool down the CPU a bit, and is not as noisy. Currently it sounds like I'm standing close to a small jet engine..... When it boots up though, it's rather quiet.
Which one can you recommend? And how good do either of these cool down such a CPU? The fanless heatpipes option sounds good, as it has no fan, but I'm not sure if it's going to keep the PC cool.

Why are you looking at these ones? None of them are amazing. If you want a quiet but cool solution the Scythe Ninja is the best you can get in SA.LordMerlin wrote:Hi

From where? I haven't seen these locally available.I34z1k wrote:If you want a quiet but cool solution the Scythe Ninja is the best you can get in SA.
The Scythe Infinity is supposed to be a bit betterer than the Ninja. The Thermalright Ultra-120 is also really good.
Eish, almost R900 for the Infinity from prophecy! Nice to know they're available, but at that price water cooling would seem like a better option.I34z1k wrote:If Prophecy can get the infinity, the ninja plus should be easily available and a bit cheaper. Just a special order. But yes, witha good fan the Ultra-120 will be good, but again its not easily available in SA. Any of the TT 120s are good.
@LordMerlin: The Thermalright XP-120, Zalman 9500 and Thermaltake Big Typhoon are probably your best options, but they're still quite pricey. What's your budget?
Go for the Zalman 9500, u WONT find a better cooler, go read the review on Tomshardware or anywhere else
ASUS P6T | Core I7 920 @ 3.4 |MSI 6950 Unlocked | 3x2048 Corsair Dominator @ 1600 8 8 8 24 (Corsair CMXAF1 Cooler) | Coolermaster HAF932 | Corsair TX850W | Logitech Z5500 | Logitech MX518 | X-FI Platinum | Samsung T260 | 8.5TB Storage
How much do those cost again...? Sorry I should have added for that price...I34z1k wrote:Um... No. Sorry. You are wrong. Go google the Tuniq Tower, Scythe Ninja/Infinity or any Scythe, Noctua NC-12, TT XP-120, Ultra-120 maybe the Si-120. There are better. Alot better.Colin_69 wrote:Go for the Zalman 9500, u WONT find a better cooler, go read the review on Tomshardware or anywhere else

+ fan R120

CNPS 9500 R584

The verdict is R487 compared to R584.
Rather save the +-R100 for a better cooler.

You cant just say because the 90 is good the 120 WILL be better. I think the xp-120 is better value then, becuase its a little cheaper. I cant find a single review where the 9500 and xp-120 gets compared. Give me review like that, then we can talk.

120mm = better airflow.
In a low airflow case a 9500 is better but if you have a nice setup the others are better. So to an extent, I retract my statement. I didn't consider other peoples setups.

wow, so much discussion on this topic...... ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
My budget is low, I'd prefer to stay below R400 since the PC is mainly for work, it hardly does heavy stuff. I probaby copy DVD's once in a blue moon, and would maybe download the videos from my firewire / USB capable video cam, if I could get the software to work in Suse 10.1

I am going for the Zalman 9700 LED soon... I want quiet. I was looking for the Sythe Ninja Rev/ b plus.. but cant find it in SA, and I am sure it will be a HUGE rip off... so Zalman it will probably be..

slap in the extra cash and get the Xp-120LordMerlin wrote:wow, so much discussion on this topic......

I know this is a bit off topic and out of the price range but has anyone looked at the Cooler Master AquaGate It seems pretty decent.
Any opinions?

Here is a little advise on Thermaltake. DON'T BUY CRAP!!! I have vowed never to use their stuff again. I have lost a MoBo because of their CPU coolers. Other people have lost whole systems because of PSU's going up in smoke.
