So Bondi

As per last part of the winblows rules thread I mentioned that the company I work for wanted us to check out other desk top OS's we will be placing our order for the first Powerbook tomorrow to we can test the apps that we use. My one will probably be ordered a few weeks later and if they are happy, We will be swapping out about 120 pc's for Macs

You should get commision

Now I am not completly converted to an apple fan yet but at least I will have the oppertunity to make up my mind.

In respect to all wonders that I have learnt about Apple, I have decided to write my computer science essay assignment on Steven Wozniak. It's a 2500 word essay on his life, achievments and contribution to computer science. It should be interesting, maybe I'll even be able to teach you a thing or two about Apple's history when I'm done.

I also work for Naspers but unlike the lucky bastards in Cape Town who use Mac, when they upgraded my machine guess what? I received a Pentium 4 2.4GHz Mecer! Why? because there is no one to service my machine in the Free State! Not that I'm really complaining now I can play games when no one is looking, but I do miss that bondi blue G3 that stood on my desktop for 3 years.

I will let you know what was ordered as soon as I know, it will either be the 15" Superdrive or the 17" Superdrive
the cheapest Mac I have seen so far is the eMac at about R9150 I have not shopped around but done more research in regard to capability than anything else.

The company I work for is purly an IT compnay however we are kind of sister company to a Medical aid and a medical Administrator.

The boxes will be nothing more than workstations in most cases. e-mail word excel etc. many of the systems that they run are web based too so that makes life pretty easy. There are however a few programs that we are a little worried about and like our accounting packages etc. we have ordered the Powerbook 15" superdrive for now. with Virtual PC. to check if we can get these apps to run. if they do we are pretty much on our way.

The up side to virtual PC is that it will n ot be needed on all the boxes. Thanksfully at R1500 its a bit heavy I think.

Do you know of a good telnet /ssh client that will run on Mac?

Why Woz? Why not Jobs? I mean, I donâ€™t praise him or anything, but Iâ€™d just like to know why. Jobs has such vision, far more than Woz had.

Yea, I would have likd to do it on Jobs, but unfortunately he was not on the list of names we were provided with.

Install Windows into a different directory than the failed one. Data's still there!

Thankls for the info Bondi.

The MD of the Medical Aid Admin comppany is the one who came to me to say windows must go. So I recon he is pretty sure that its time for a change.

Woz would be a great character to write about. Sure he might not have been a visionary like Jobs but lets face it Woz has probably forgotten more than we will ever know. And if it was not for Woz im not sure that Apple would have happened, at least not as soon at it did.

or if you are just worried about your profile

log in as the admin copy your profile across to another drive/machine format and reinstall, then reinstall any packages you had as your user log out log back in as admin and copy your profile back, log out then back in as your user problem solved all your documents are there and your mail etc.

Not the easiest method but hey it will not take 2 days

I was by a client today, he complained there were so many programs on the market for video editing, but nothing came close to what he was looking for, and as for computer setups, he has a variety of quotes ranging in astronomical value.

I said to him, money is not the issue is it? He replied no.

I strongly recommended Apple to him, and showed him some of the pics on this forum. He has made up his mind

Now I have a problem, as a dealer, I have to find an Apple distributer, could you refer me to one, bondi? Preferably in the Pretoria/Johannesburg area.
