i dunno whats the difference, .co.za just seems faster to me! One's hosted locally and the other one elsewhere!
My .co.za server is overseas i think!!!

www.dataspace.co.za (now netprazision!)

for free .za.net hosting! I think there may be others that provide the service as well...Dataspace doesn't have such good support! Maybe do a google for someone else that does .za.net hosting???
Dataspace gives you 20MB space, i dunno if others do too?

Cookie: The registration of .co.za domains are free now and renewal of said domain is R50 per year payable to COZA.

Linux hosting packages start from R25 per month.

Don't bother trying Dataspace, here's why:

Dear Member,

Thank you for choosing to do business with us throughout the last few years. It’s been a privilege to work with you.

We regret to inform you that we will be discontinuing our internet services as from 30 June 2006. This means your hosting account/dialup account/website development/online shop or any other service we may have provided will be discontinued/disconnected on the last day of June 2006.

Please make the necessary arrangements should you require us to help you transfer your online shop or website hosting to another Internet Service Provider before our servers are disconnected on 30 June 2006. We recommend you have a look at the services provided by Colhit Solutions at http://www.colhit.co.za which has been working closely with NetPrazision ISP in the last few years.

All outstanding payments must be paid on of before 7 June 2006 and this includes the payment for the hosting for the period of 1 June 2006 – 30 June 2006. All services for which payment was made in advanced for example if the payment has been made for 3 months in advance the remaining amount on your account will be paid back into your bank account if we are provided with your bank account details.

We have recently started selling flash memory card products which has become our main product oriented service offering. Our new website for the flash memory products such as Compact Flash, Secure Digital, MMC, XD, Sony Memory Stick, etc. will be up and running shortly.

Sincerely
Johan van Vuuren

I know this is a really really old thread but does anyone know of other free website providers?

Obviously local bandwidth.

Seriously guys... it's like 20 bucks a month. There's no way you don't have 20 bucks lying around.

Skip the McDonalds ONE day a month and you have monthly hosting money.

I'd agree with you if you said "Steers" or "KFC"!

Weasel is busy putting together a free hosting package.
Not local currently but his looking at moving to local servers early in 2010.

Cybersmart is doing free local hosting now. But it's only 50MB disk space and 300MB bandwidth, AND, your domain and email have to be with them.

I don't know about a free .co.za domain. But I know about free .co.cc. And you can also get free hosting from My Store Hosting.
