Outlook keeps crashing

Post by Jack_Goa »

Good Day,
I have had this problem since I installed MS Office. Outlook crashes whenever I open it. Then I get the error reporting page which automatically opens it again and it will be fine. Sometimes it will crash a second and third time. Then when it is minimized to tray, it will crash every now and then, it seems to happen everytime it sends and receives.
What I have done up until now:
- the obvious - uninstall and reinstall office (deleted all profiles, registry entires etc as well)
- tried different profiles
- done detect and repair
- did the scanpst thing
- went to services, disabled all bluetooth services, uinstalled my mobile phone software, disabled windows messenger in group policy as well as the messenger service in services. (this seemed to have an impact, even though it didn't stop the crashing, just less often)

Please does anyone have any more advice.
Regards
..and I thought I knew everything!

Are you using Outlook with an Exchange, POP or iMAP mailbox?
Also, how often is outlook synchronising with your mail server?
If you are using POP, try configuring Outlook Express and see if that alsol crashes at startup.

You have done some pretty thorough diagnostics already...
Is your PC on a network? ADSL? Dialup?

I'm on ADSL. I used to use Outlook Express and never had problems.
PC is networked at home.
POP3 Accounts. About 6 of them. It checks for mail every 20 mins.

Do any of the other PC's on your network have access to the net?
Try install & configure Outlook on one of them and connect.
If it works fine on a another PC then you may have to format that PC if you want Outlook to work :?
For POP mail you shouldn't bother with Outlook though - just go back to Express, or better yet use Thunderbird or Eudora.

It's fine on all the other pc's.
I just re-installed this pc and then Office 2003. I can't see how I have to re-install it again. It can't be buggered so quickly.

Well, reinstall it again (I know, I know  ) and then load XP Service Pack 2 AND Office 2003 SP2 before you put it on the network.
Then configure the mailbox again and lets see...

Umm, maybe just install Office SP2 and see if it helps...

Reinstalling all that is too much work just to get Outllook working ;)

Also, why are you installing Office and using your web server as a workstation, if I may ask :?:

It's a testing server, some of us aren't quite up for Linux. And it's nice to have the server right there.
Yes I have re-installed SP2.
Thanx for trying to help anyway.
