Temperature Problems or Not?
Hi guys.
I have a Intel P4 2.8Ghz CPU and a Intel D865GBF Motherboard with Hyper-Threading Technology. My idle temperature for my CPU is 65 degrees celsius. Is that normal or what? My CPU fan makes unbearable noise the whole time... If it's a problem what should I do?

Thanks
I'll replace it first thing next week. Hopefully it fixes the problem, and my computer will shut up finally...
Yeah, I agree with Thrall. My P4 3.0GHz sits at 45 idle. And it's not loud at all--on the stock cooler. In fact, my P4 is quieter (though hotter) than my Athlon.Thrall wrote:Pretty high temps. Bearings are probably shot on the fan - replace it with something better, preferably the heatsink as well.

Cool...
I didn't mention It above but I think I've got a presscot Processor.
Anyhoo, I am going to replace the sinc and fan on monday.
I just checked the cpu my heatpaste, by the looks of it, isn't applied correctly - I am gonna frag those guys at Anstek Computers. Maybe thats the reason aw well. I'll replace it anyway...

Damn... my Athlon 64 is idling at 36 right now
. I'd say 65 is way too high (even for a Prescott).
As far as the TIM on your heatsink, how did Anstek mess that up? Stock heatsinks come with either a layer of TIM or a piece of mesh reinforced TIM, so it's usually a no-brainer to fit correctly :eh:

That's way too hot. Should be below 50C idle temp for prescott. Get a new heatsink/fan. Aftermarket heatsinks are generally better (Zalman, Thermalright etc).

I just removed CPU to check again. It seems the paste was in between my PIN's How the hell do they get the stuff underneath the CPU.
I cleaned it and it seems the idle temp is at 47 degrees now. Thats a huge improvement.
I am still replacing it though. I was thinking of trying out watercooling, but I heard it's expensive...

Depending on how you do it, watercooling can be expensive! Havent priced any in a while though, prices may have changed.
Ive got a P4 3.0GHz(Northwood or what ever its called), idles at +-40, even when Im doing serious gaming I dont reach 65, Im still on stock, and my PC's got nearly 3 years of dust inside it, Something I should really get rid of.
