Will an sli graphics card work in a non sli motherboard?

The reason I ask this is because my soon to be mobo has 1 slot and I want to get a Gainward 6600GT Golden Sample which has sli

Well if I understood you correctly, you're saying that you have an SLI ready GFX card and a motherboard which is not SLI ready. In this case, your GFX card should work perfectly. Just make sure that the motherboard has a PCI-Express x16 slot. It might be better to go for an SLI ready board (for an upgrade if you're upgrading) as this is a better option in terms of future compatability. If you ever need more GFX power, just slip in another card.

Surely it's not that complicated. It's either compatible or it's not. Surely someone knows? 8O

The mobo in question is a Asus K8N4-E Deluxe which is socket 754 mobo(I have a skt 754 processor). I don't know were to get that new Colorful mobo that is skt 754 and has sli.

EDIT: this is all to keep me sane untill the PS3 is launched

I won't be upgrading soon after so the goodies I will get are

1) Asus K8N4-E Deluxe @R877 from Sybartic
2) Gainward Geforce 6800 Golden Sample 128mb 128bit DDR3 Pci-express Sli @ R1499 from computersonly.co.za

Total cost of upgrade = R2376 - whatever I get for my old mobo and AGP card which are 1)Chaintech VNF3-250 + 2) Chaintech Geforce FX 5500 128mb

There seems to be no 754 SLI motherboards available across brands in South Africa, the cheapest SLI motherboard is the COLORFUL NF4S-DS V1.4 / NVIDIA NFORCE 4 / DUAL CHANNEL DDR400 X4 /ALC850 8-CH CODEC AUDIO & RLT8201BL 10/100MbS LAN / 4 X SERIAL-ATA2 300 W/NVIDIA RAID & ATA13 R844.74 incl. and stock will only be available in next year January.
