RAS on WinXP Pro

Post by anvil »

I´m trying to set up an incoming connection to my WinXP Pro machine, but the wizard keeps telling me that the Routing and Remote Access service can´t be started. The event viewer has the following to say about it:

The Routing and Remote Access service depends on the NetBIOSGroup group and no member of this group started.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I follow that link and get:

Explanation
None of the services in the specified group started. Because the service is dependent on other members of the group, the service did not start.

User Action
Ask the person with administrative rights on your computer to check the Event Log with Event Viewer to locate any service-related errors that could have caused this error. Your administrator should also check your computer´s configuration.

Faaark! Help me please. Why am I missing the NetBIOSGroup group of services? I don´t see anything like that in the list of local services on my machine. I´ve had a look at the optional networking components that may not have been included in the original installation, but none of it looks promising.
TechNet was no great help either.
