Post by KillerByte »

Are there any distros of Linux that are ideal for playing Games that are written for Windows. Such as CS, Doom 3 HL2 and the like...

I heard of one that boots directly into UT2004, but I have no idea where to get it or what it is named.

Linux has no support for DirectX and they probably never will because it's a MS proprietary system. They do have OpenGL though. Some games do release a Linux installer but very few. So you end up having to use an emulater like WINE but it comes with limited functionality.

I need a Linux that I can install and then install all my Windows games on. Once I have a distro that allows me to play games then I will ditch windows and never look back.

If only all "game developers" like the one who did UT2004 can do the same, give a linux installer :|

Nothing c00ler than stieking out at a LAN booting up linux and owning in UT2004 :sly:

Well I used SusE and Mandrake, and I got the following games to work perfectly on Linux.

UT2004
Doom3
Far Cry
Need 4 Speed Underground

and... ya, that's kinda all I tried, you just use WINE for the ones that don't have an installer like UT2004

ere ya go
go to goooooogle
tipe in "linux directX patches"
the first link click on
download them
and compile them in to ur WINE directory ei: /home/iREADyourEMAIL/.wine/

but make sure that u arent just copy-pasting it
make sure that it is compiled into the kernel

then you might have a problem with sound
all u have to do is make sure that u are useing ALSA(andvance linux sound achitecture) and not OSS(open source sound) or arts or watever
to do this
got to control center go to sound-sound systems

and set it to ALSA
when ur done reboot so it all fits
after that snoop around /var or /tmp
to make sure that ALSA intilized

if it still

dosent work

get debian!!!
