5.1 Speaker
5.1 Speaker
I have decided to do something about my sound setup. I have purchased an AOpen 5.1 sound card, which I am fairly happy with considering it's price. Now I need some speakers.
I am on a tight budget, and my options are a Proline 5.1 set or a Labtech 5.1 set. Any comments, suggestions regarding the two? I am always worried about just going for the cheaper option (Proline). Anyone had experience with the Proline set ?
My other option (although it is a bit above my price range) is an AOpen 5.1 set.
Any comments/suggestions/experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: 5.1 Speaker
Whatever you do don't go for an AOPEN 5.1 set (unless they make more then one model). A friend of mine has them and they are absolutely terrible. For that amount of money (+-R300 i think it was), rather get decent headphones and pocket the change. Those speakers distort at normal -listening volume (maybe it has something to do with the fact that the satelite speakers are like 0.5 inches in diameter), not to mention the sub-woofer, which apparently produces bass.psykro wrote:I have decided to do something about my sound setup. The best-bang for the buck speakers are the Logitec X-530s at the moment, which will own anything in their price-range, not to mention the odd Aopen set...

Don't be influenced by cash only, you will only be sorry later, once you have unpacked the shiny new box and it sounds *#&%.
Rather save up a while longer and go for a name.
I have a creative card and speakers. Who needs a HIFI.
Mind blowing.
Reinforces the old saying that size does not matter...

I'm with the rest of the guys here..... Logitech X-530's....Best bang for your buck. I have a set and am very happy...they sound *sweet* ![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Incredible Deception had a 40% of all speakers sale.....I got them for R599. Normal price R999?? Yah right!
One thing I would add to them....Bass and treble control on the front speaker would have been nice..
Also, the bass is bit too much, even if I turn the sub all the way down....and drop the bass in Winamp...
but, small issues.....they still sounds sweet!

Yeah I know the Logitech's are the best. Was just trying to find a slightly lower cost solution.
Anyone had experience with Labtech speakers ?
-ASSASSIN-, do you know which model AOpen speakers your buddy has ?

what sound card do u have? if its a creative card you get an option in creative control centre to change it to 4 speakers also most of the new in all of them should have that option. test it by going to one of the rears and putting your ear to it if there's sound coming out it works if not check all the cables and still nothing take it backmaxxis wrote:So I bought a set of Cambridge SoundWorks 4.1 speakers from my boss today for R250.
How do I get iTunes to play in all four speakers. In control panel I have them setup for quad speaker output.
Any ideas?

JUSTICE, n A commodity which is a more or less adulterated condition the State sells to the citizen as a reward for his allegiance, taxes and personal service.
What you can do to balance out the sound is lower the sound of your front speakers (in the audio mixer) and then crank up the volume a bit more than usual. Should give you a balanced out sound level...
maxxis wrote:The speakers work 100%. I use a Realtek AC97 onboard audio card. The rears play but very soft. When I do a speaker test I can hear the difference between the volume levels. I installed the latest drivers for the card but still nothing.
I give up. Might go out and buy a SB Live.

Well I've got a 4.5 year old FPS1800 Cambridge Soundworks (Creative) which is 4.1 surround and I did have any problems up until now. I paid about R700.00 rand for the set while I was in the US. It's plain, it's simple and not a hell of a lot of ****** plastic on it like you get these days. I had one problem though, the 110Volt it was using. Nothing you could not fix with a decent transformer, to get 220 to 110, I could have gone the extra mile and build a adaptor taking 220 to 15Volt DC, but the slep if you suffer to get the amps.
From what I've seen with my sound system, Logitech X-530) and some of my friends sound systems, when playing music, for example in Winamp or playing a cd, ie audio only then only the two front speakers and the subwoofer actually play audible sounds.
When I play a movie in Windows Media Player or Real Player for example. The centre and rear speakers work fine.
It's done this with all my sound systems and this is the third one I've had. Also did the same with the onboard 5.1 I had on my DFI Lanparty NFII and now on my 7.1 built-in on my MSI K8N Neo Plat.
