MWEB Uncapped account tested – 384k results
While our esteemed counter-parts over at My BroadBand tested the luxurious 4mb account from MWEB over at the PCF Ranch it was decided to test the more humble 384kb account.

Thanks Mike. It's actually pretty handy to have the slower line tested. I linked to your review over at MyBB because some members were asking if any testing had been done on the slower lines. I trust you have no problem with that?

That's one of the main reasons for me too. Steam. Steam is fantastic, but with SA's "broadband" it's completely useless...

because we have been bent over the proverbial counter for far too long. When package prices become reasonable then we can become brand loyal.

SO my grandparents went over to telkom today to ask about the ADSL contract that has expired...

The sales lady told them that if they want to renew the contract then the price is no longer R199 p/m

Apparently Telkom have raised the price??? WTF? So i am going to investigate this tomorrow. I bet the lady was trying to rip off my grandparents.

So i am seriously considering canning my telkom ADSL line and moving it to mweb. or any other provider that gives great service.... read as Afrihost.

I have become a bit of a fan boi for them. :)

Afrihost have stated that they will release uncapped pricing early next week to match Mweb. Will post a link a bit later when I get to my PC. On my phone right now.

Just upgraded my dad's 10.5 gig account to the uncapped account today, took a 5 minute phone call after getting through to a rep. So far everything is working fine. Will still keep my afrihost capped account as a safety net for now.

But this is great. Finally steam and online gaming has become really viable to an extent. Must be a sucker punch for WA their local steam server just became pretty redundant, I would suspect most customer interest in that would also be likely clients for this uncapped service.

That's strange, when I cancelled mine they just wanted me to do it more than 5 days before the end of the month. :?

Fixed your link for you. ;)

EDIT: Afrihost isn't that groundbreaking. Their price is the same as Mweb's all inclusive offering. Thank you SAOL, you've been good to me, but hello Mweb uncapped. :)

Early tests seem to indicate that Afrihost's product is better. But we're talking here about testing over a couple of days.

the real test is what the services will be like 3 months down the line, when everyone is making full use of uncapped ADSL.

Wow, uploads are horrendous. I am uploading two sermon MP3s (via FTP) to our church's website. One is 11.44MB and the other is 10.96MB. I started the uploads at 4:03 PM. As of now (4:56 PM) we are sitting on 31% and 38% respectively.

Glad I actually did not complete those forms...

From what I have been reading all around Mweb is swamped and are needing shaping just to deliver a service. It appears the Tier 1 upgrade has not helped them any...

I'm getting great surfing speeds. Emails is fine. Youtube vids play without stopping to buffer. http downloading is normal. It's just uploading that really caught me off guard. Will try here at home later and see if after hours is any different.
