Re: The new forum gets even better.
Wow! I opened my browser, and clicked the PCFormat button in the google toolbar. At first I was like WTH? Why did FF open our photography club forums instead of PCF forums? Then I saw but it IS PCF that finally discovered my choice theme - VistaXFull.
Thanks! Now I can surf PCF in style
Now I have to ask... How did you modify the original theme so that there is a logo at the top of the page? And how did you shift the User Control Panel to the left in the top bar?

well, given how he managed to completely duff up that most hated of catch phrases "brand centric", i'd have to go with a resounding "yes"!lancelot wrote:Are you the spin doctor for the local ANC branch?

Awesome, the new look is good enough for me to get over the fact that there's no sidebar anymore (I'm getting this nagging feeling that if anymore people complain about it, it might result in a banstick )
Very clean, much easier on the eyes, and a better layout. AND it's widescreen friendly!

Sorry about creating new thread when one was already made...
Any way I love the new forum look and stuff... but It would be stuill nice to have the side bar
But it is much better , but the look and feel I say is the best its been... it actualy beats the Mac OS look and feel ... So It wopuld be nice to have the side bar in the future, it makes it easier to find the latest techi topics and general topics, like what MIA has in her screen shot

The sidebar is not coming back. Deal with it.
Re: The new forum gets even better.
Why is everybody so addicted to the damn sidebar.
What was offered in that that isn't in the Active Topics link?

It separated the Spam and Tech section, that was really helpful.maxxis wrote:Why is everybody so addicted to the damn sidebar.

And it was one less click away. Tbh, though, I am so used to the Active Topics link now I'm not missing the sidebar anymore.WiK1d wrote:It separated the Spam and Tech section, that was really helpful.maxxis wrote:Why is everybody so addicted to the damn sidebar.

Re: The new forum gets even better.
Yea this is nicer and better looking than the old one.... but one small question and no its not for the sidebar.
Will it be possible to have the active topics refresh everytime a post was made or new post then you dont have to F5 the whole time. I have the forum open in its own tab while im busy with other stuff, and then coming back i have to refresh to see whats new, will it be possible?

Thanks to Stuart
Re: The new forum gets even better.
Speak to Ron about that one. It is possible but it might not be viable as it might pull extra load on the server if the page needs to refresh the whole time.

Re: The new forum gets even better.
The easy solution. Get opera. Then open active topics in its own tab, right click and set it to auto refresh every so many minutesmaxxis wrote:Speak to Ron about that one. and then you just open new topics in their own tab.
Re: The new forum gets even better.
Maxxis, are you still going to change the colour of the active page? Would be a nice tweak as currently I can't see the black at all, looks the same as the blue to me.

Um...MIA wrote:Also, the time/date of posts made are gone. Did the new look/template scrap that? Not a major issue, just curious.
I know this has been resolved but how could you miss this?

The overall look of the now Vistafied forums is great. When I was testing out Opera Mini last night and it loaded the forums as it looks now I didn't know what the hell was going on! All in all very nice, I would just like to know one thing, would it be possible to move the PM, Email and other icons back to the section underneath a user's avvie? IMO it looked better over there and a lot neater.maxxis wrote:Its more suited to the image of the magazine. I understand uniqueness but this is more brand centered.
I also just noticed this, very, very nice!DarkStar wrote:Very clean, much easier on the eyes, and a better layout. AND it's widescreen friendly!
This could explain why the old forums was so slow because the server was constantly pulling data to update that blasted sidebar.maxxis wrote:Speak to Ron about that one. It is possible but it might not be viable as it might pull extra load on the server if the page needs to refresh the whole time.

Re: The new forum gets even better.
Well, to get it to refresh whenever a new post was made, I'd have to teach myself some AJAX first.bosaap wrote:Yea this is nicer and better looking than the old one.... but one small question and no its not for the sidebar.

What I've done instead was borrow one line of code from viewonline.php, add it to the relevant place in search.php, and the active topics page now refreshes every 60 seconds. I'll keep an eye on server load; if things slow down because of this, I will either increase the refresh interval or disable it entirely.

Re: The new forum gets even better.
Technically it will only refresh for those who have the link open. Should be fine.
