Because i would really like some other skins for css
Last time I looked any modifications of the game, from skins to even changing the colour of your crosshair, is illegal. Which is intellectually bankrupt and silly.

No Psycho, only modifying the game code is illegal. Mods, maps and skins for games are not.

Competitions have their own rules, they might not allow certain mods but that doesn't mean modding the game is illegal.

Halo, I have the same problem - it stays on 99% and keeps saying it's not ready for offline mode. Even if you try to update it again, it doesn't work - I tried it a few weeks ago. :(

"oh PIRATES yes they will play,
no hastels with steam and copyright s**t,
we cracked this installation,
triumphantly..."

Well it is unfair that it's the pirates who get to play the game with no hassles while we have to struggle... luckily I'm not a huge CS fan or I would have made a bigger scene about it...

well jedi, maybe the dark side does have its advantages... but seriously, I am upset about this whole steam thing. what does valve expect me to do? take my PC to another country, just so that I can install their game? I am a big fan of Half Life, but not that big.

On the other HL thread, some people had problems, even a mate of mine in CT had some sort of mishap. But I was trying to see the good in it. Unfortunately every day someone ads another little bit of info that just pushes me away from this game.

greywolf, i dont want to seem... well pushly, but HL2 is an amazing game and is an experience not to be missed. like everything it does have its short comings and in this case it was steam... so i dont see why so many people overlook other games faults and focus on HL2's one fault.............. if you wana play the game you have to do what it takes to play it LEGALLY.

I'n not going to take offence halo. but dude, see my location? Lusaka? Know where that is? Its in Zambia? Know where that is? I don't mean geographically, I mean technology wise... well let me tell you. We still use analogue lines for our telephones, we get 45k when we dial up (if we lucky), and our electricity grid is not the most stable of creatures. So do you see why I am upset?
I am not dissing the game, I am enraged by Valve for implementing this Steam thing.

I mean, is it really worth all the hastle to its consumers, when the system has already been cracked? To me the answer is definately "NO!" So what was the point really? Did it stop piracy? not a chance. Get what I am trying to say?

Look on the first page of this post, I posted a link to a fix for that problem.

GreyWolf, 45K is not bad at all, I get 24K if I am lucky. My conection is 16.8 at the moment, last night it was 9.6.

I have to agree with greywolf this whole steam misshap has proberably caused more piracy than before. Look at it this way those who were going to buy the game were going to buy it whether it had anti piracy tactics or not and those who pirate new they would get there hands on it sooner or later more likely sooner coz of the games status. Now those who wanted to buy it after the release proberably pirated it in fear that there money would be wasted on a non working HL2. Now im not saying that everyone did this but the problems with steam definately increased HL2 piracy at least in SA. Well thats my opinion. Use it dont use it.
