PCF LANs?
Re: PCF LANs?
LOL, it's sooo ironic that the dude accusing everyone else of being homo has to mention weeners in every post he makes, including his username.
I say we pretend he doesn't exist (I'm sure he gets treated the same irl) and wait till the mods get here.

Re: PCF LANs?
Sorry haven't been following the thread 'cos wherever it is, probably won't make it but here would be a nice idea:
Setup a main Game Server in JHB and 2 "remote servers" in CPT and DBN that connect to the JHB server. Then all 3 places can simultaneously LAN together. Each venue connects to the local server which connects to the main JHB server online. Would this be possible?

Re: PCF LANs?
It's theoretically possible with local-only bandwidth and VPN tunnelling, but you'll need a LOT of bandwidth to pull this off - a 4Mbps line probably won't cut it here.

Re: PCF LANs?
Ok, if anyone reckons it's viable and worth doing for a massive nation-wide PCF LAN. Run some bandwidth benchmarks on your favourite online games to see how many KB/s you pull. If it's possible, there's got to be someone, able and willing to host the JHB server.

Re: PCF LANs?
Nah to get the pings you need for running multipe people on gaming over the same lines you need something like a Diginet where you don't have a contention ratio. I used to have a 328k Diginet line and let me tell ya it was just as fast as a 1MB DSL at the time if not faster. I could actually play games over the thing on the net. In any case the problem was/is that the non-contention (dedicated) lines are very expensive. For a 318K line you would pay around 6k a month and then you are not even talking about installation. Also the further you are from an exchange the more expensive it becomes. Good thing though is you don't have a cap on the line. I would also venture to say that you would have to get some decent routers to use which can configure VPN directly on them instead of having a software VPN (which also could slow things down)
So Synthesis - Yes it is possible but you would need the correct equipment. Don't get me wrong though. If we find a feasable way of doing it I would do it in a heartbeat.

Oh do you have one for each area. Durban, CPT and JHBUrBaN wrote:I do have such a router just waiting to be used...
I think it would be easier to convince Panorama to open field offices and then install some decent lines But what is the chance of that happening

Re: PCF LANs?
No I would only have the one for the JHB office...
Still, the LAN sounds like an awesome thing, I will be on the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Team
