Tried to update to jellybean- this was after the phone decided to download the update ota, by itself, without my consent, and then not installing it. I figured it had something to do with clockwork mod.

After 'n helse gesukkel, I managed to update cwm to the new cwm touch, after which, trying to install one of three different 4.1.1 update files (including the one the phone downloaded by itself) I managed to brick the damn thing.

Out of frustration I cleared the cache en err, something else... not sure what, then tried to reinstall using one of said update files, it then decided to work :troll:

Nice! Just had a interesting read on a article on XDA developers. Warning to Tribble, dont read it :P.

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/h ... s-kernels/
Hard Brick Bug on Galaxy S II and Note Leaked ICS Kernels
POSTED MAY 18, 2012 AT 9:00 PM

Since the latest leaks for the Samsung Galaxy S2 line up have been hitting us left and right, people have been jumping between ROMs—mainly between buggy, pre-release ICS builds and very stable GB. This is, after all, what we do on XDA as a habit: We see a leak, we flash it, we use it, and we tweak it. If it doesn’t fly, we simply roll back. Of course, there is always an inherent risk in flashing stuff that should not be on your device in the first place, but the risk of fully bricking a device in this day and age is rather small. Especially, since there are tools available to bring your devices back from the dead, such as UnBrickable Mod by XDA Elite Recognized Developer AdamOutler.

Having said this, not everything seems to be fine in the world of leaks. Thanks to XDA Elite Recognized Developer Entropy512, we have learned that most devices that are receiving leaks are at a very high risk of never waking up after a flash. It turns out that there is a major bug in the leaked ICS kernel that affects the /data partition in the eMMC chip, which apparently gets corrupted during certain operations such as wiping and flashing. This was originally believed to be affecting only operations performed in custom recoveries such as CWM. However, there have been reports of hard bricks being produced from the flashing from stock recoveries as well. The affected devices are:

All Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710) ICS leaks
All Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) ICS leaks
The AT&T Galaxy S II (SGH-I777) UCLD3 leak – and probably all others
Korean SHW-M250S/K/L official releases and any kernel built from their source

...
Follow the link for further reading. So in reading the thread and linked pages I downloaded the Brick Bug app to check and what do you know:

Image

Hehe no more wipes for me in CWM, luckily the ROM developer I follow does not use the wipe command but rather does a conventional delete. Takes more time but has less risks associated with it :).

Congrats!

Are you guys using any other launchers? Wanted to make my S3 look like it had Jelly Bean, so I installed Apex launcher with the Jelly Bean theme and Holo locker. Looks great.

Don't think I'll root it just yet. Maybe once they release a stable 100% working version of CM10

I use Nova launcher, the paid version. Tried all of them and for some reason I really prefer this one...

Pretty cool dude, like i said, my performance of my phone has definitely increased with ICS, gingerbread made my phone laaaaaag badly sometimes, and it was only a 220mb update, so pretty small as well, if you take the changes from one OS to another

There is no doubt that ICS is a more pleasant experience than Gingerbread. I'm actually considering rooting my phone and trying Jelly Bean to see if it's a game changer.

Yep, does seem smoother than Gingerbread . Might want to try jelly bean too

220mb is tiny compared to the size of the new ios
